The Post Office Fiasco with Post Offices being arbitarily closed and remaining Post Offices being shunted into the back of WH Smith and other stores results from New Labour's inspired decision to push through a EU directive in advance of every other EU country .
Labour MP John Trickett accused the New Labour Government of gold plating and railroading the EEC Directive through in advance of other EEC member states .
The Bolkestein Directive as issued by Dutch Free marketeer and one time EEC Commissioner Frits Bolkestein introduced internal market provisions but forgetting to ring fence public services and the USO .
Trickett pointed out in Parliament that although the directive was passed by the Council of Ministers in the EEC , Parliament did not have the opportunity to debate the directive and ensure the will of the people was heard - A familiar New Labour story ! .
Chairman of the EEC scrutiny Committee Michael Connarty , and MP David Drew agreed that the UK PO once made a massive profit but the service had been cherrypicked by Dutch and German postal giants TNT & DHL , whilst the directive in Holland and Germany was delayed until 2013 .
Mr Drew described the decision to follow up the EEC directive in the Postal Services Act as an unmitigated disaster .
MP John Trickett complained that " Public Services ought to be protected by Parliamentary debate before and not after New Labour Ministers agree to changes "

Well I'll hold sway on the election until I see the whites of their eyes - it could be the first time I vote Tory.norbert wrote:also those MP's will have to face a general election by May 2010 at the latest & the Tories are seven points ahead at the Polls - let's face it , Mandy thinks he's Deputy Prime Minister nowdvbuk55 wrote:Don't bother with the stable door boys the horse is well away.
