can anyone tell me whats the standard hours for sorting own walks frame and delivery, i do 2 different shifts as im on a 1 hr contract 9-1pm 4 hrs, frame supposedly filled ready for tying up and i still have to kill off any deads and do redirections and d2d's.
Also 6hrs 36 in which i sort my own mail, kill off any deads, redirections, tying up, driving to delivery, posting and returning undelivered parcels to post office. do i take it i have to work from the allocated half 7 start so i have to deliver to 13.36?
also on either of those sets of hrs, can i cut off if i have not finished by 13-00 and 13-36?
on another point if i do a weeks worth of hours at 9am-1pm ie 5 days,do i have to do door to doors as well?
cheers folks its very hard to get any information of what i am contractually bound to deliver etc and at what timescale, i continually find out information here that is held back from me by management

If you are on a 1hr contract ,then you are contractually obliged to work one hour per week. every thing else is optional. Fulfill your contracted hour and negotiate payment for any required excess ,or refuse it if no mutually agreeable terms can be reached

One hour contract means just that, work for your hour and then just go home, kill off your deads, bundle up your mail, collect your keys and priorities then put on your coat and go home
(unless they want to give you a proper contract that ensures that you can do the duty without having to claim OT on a regular basis).

Very good answers from the 2 previous posters and worth taking into account certainly with the period of industrial unrest we have heading our way.
However, to answer on finishing times that would be entirely up to you - if you contract is 1hr per week and you have somewhere to be (even at 1230) there is nothing the Manager can do legally to make you work longer than that. If you want to finish at a certain time and you have completed your contracted hours, there is nothing to stop you.
Door to Doors should normally be prepped during your normal working hours so again I guess it is ultimately up to you. I would advise if you are on a shift where you would prep than I would do the D2Ds (only 20% per day) as you get more money when you do them. If you are on a pre-prepped shift then I would either get them prepped by someone else before you start, or prep them and claim more overtime. If you are tight on time then advise the manager you cant complete the whole walk and what would he prefer you to do,
Whatever you do is ultimately up to you and whether or not you have the fortitude and strength of character to stand up for your right. (This last sentence may sound condescending but thats not my intention as in the end it really is up to the individual concerned)

Re: lots of questions sorry lol
cheers for the responses people, especially regarding d2d's basically my hours have now dropped so next week i will only be getting 4 hours a day and will be expected to prep the door to doors and deliver them as well, i have been told by management that these are to be prepped/delivered in my own time by myself and not as part of the 4 hours ie the d2d payment covers this, in this case i would be left in the office prepping d2d's when delivery should be taking place. also on a lot of occasions i come in and half my walk has not been prepped leaving me to do the prepping and on occasion leaving the office at 11-12am, i really get pissed off by the way us 1 hrs are treated.

These are the relevant passages from the D2D agreement of which the latest is 1996 I think. Ask your manager if you can see the more recent one (there isn't one yet) if you wish to dispute his position.tragictramp wrote:cheers for the responses people, especially regarding d2d's basically my hours have now dropped so next week i will only be getting 4 hours a day and will be expected to prep the door to doors and deliver them as well, i have been told by management that these are to be prepped/delivered in my own time by myself and not as part of the 4 hours ie the d2d payment covers this, in this case i would be left in the office prepping d2d's when delivery should be taking place. also on a lot of occasions i come in and half my walk has not been prepped leaving me to do the prepping and on occasion leaving the office at 11-12am, i really get pissed off by the way us 1 hrs are treated.

Re: lots of questions sorry lol
Out of curiosity TT do you have a Union rep and have you asked them for assistance on these issues?
and re. D2D agreement TrueBlue - its alright having it in its agreed form but as you know its so ambigious its untrue and its a disgrace the the CWU HQ haven't gone back to revise it making it clearer for people to actually use! Thats why it would be best getting his rep involved over D2D's and clearly stating that both the prep and delivery of D2D's must not be done outside of your daily worktime!!

yes i have a union rep but he is too close to the management and doesn't really help anyone sadly, thus i wish to know actual documented procedures rather than word of mouth from him.

Thats unfortunate TT, i've made a point of getting to know our new part time starters as they're the ones that are usually cohersed to operate outside of normal work practises.
re. the D2D agreement i dont suggest you go into management quoting the agreement - as like i said its easily misinterpreted. The one thing you can for sure hold to is that D2D work either prep or delivery should be able to be fulfilled within your work time...not in your own time!!
The average time our branch suggests to prep a round is around 1hr 45 mins (give or take) on the days you work from 9-1pm i would argue you haven't the necessary allocated prep time to allow you to prep 20% D2D's...put the problem back to management...either he gets them prepped or increases your hours. At our DO we have P/T shifts from 9 - 2pm giving more time for additional prep.
like i mentioned in a previous post - i'm not familiar with these 1 hr contracts and would totally object to them full stop!
What i would do in your posistion is on every Thurs ask your DOM for next weeks requirements of you. whatever he asks of you remember you are only contracted to 1 hr and are obliged to work no more (infact if you were to tell him you were not prepared to work beyond you 1 hr for several weeks i think he may quickly seek to get you a new contract). The details of your weekly hours you want printed out clearly identifying your start time and finish time including your meal reliefs and pouching off time. Tell him your prepared to work beyond your time only if you have these details every week...if there is resistance then i would contact your branch.
