Optimism- Lets work it out ourselves

Post by sw »

My first time on here, My name is steve.
I am suprised that we are not putting forward our own suggestions when there are so many views circulating in our depot.
Rather than talking about how crap everybody is from the top levels of the Royal mail downwards.
Lets figure out what we think should be happening.
Should we be selling off part of our company. --- is there an alternative?
Should top management be ousted from the top? --- Who would replace them? and why?
How do we make our company Number One?
Should we cut costs? why?
Do we have to make a profit or are we a public service?
Should we cut jobs?
Should we work unpaid hours because our rounds are heavy?
Are all rounds fair or is there a learning curve needed for newbies?
Should the government be allowed to cream off the profits from Royal Mail?
Do managers go on courses to learn key words such as 'There is no problem' or I will see you when you get back'
Is the union any good. If not why? How can we improve it.
Should we have part time workers?
This company {At the moment} belongs to us, so lets see what we can do to keep it ours.
Lets start putting forward our own ideas rather than sitting back and letting unelected {unskilled } politicians Rule or Ruin our lives.
I believe in the Royal Mail as Britains number 1 company. Now and in the future. I do not want to see us lose it.

A lot of big questions there mate! Do you really think you could get true answers to any of them?

I can give you one true answer to one of them...No RM doesn't belong to us - its been quite clear over the last couple of years has that. What you have in RM are the 'Decision Makers' and the ones who carry out those decisions...now i wonder which of those we are?

The only question we need to ask is - are we bothered whether RM is privatised?

If not then believe everything is hunkydorry and pretend that the upper eschalons do actually give a rats ass what suggestions we might have!

If you are bothered, then wake up and smell the coffee - the time for interaction suveys and suggestion boxes mean diddlysquat! Those 'Decision Makers' have made their decision and it doesn't involve a large role for the CWU - well lets show 'em otherwise shall we?

OK. It seems that some people have no faith in the company they work for.
Sorry I can't help that.
Why don't those employees that do believe in the Royal Mail buy the 30 per cent of the business instead of the Dutch.
How much would it cost a week over (say 2 years)
Offer it to the workers I believe we would buy it. I would (no ifs or buts about it)
I believe in the Royal Mail as a company and will be happy to invest.

I can't say that running a big business is my thing but there are a couple of things that spring to mind.

TNT, DHL and DeuchPost all collect mail and we deliver it. It seems sensible that the collection part of Royal Mail could be split from the delivery side so that it can compete on more even ground. Then the delivery side would be totally seperate and the prices they charge could be set more fairly.

Secondly, with respect to the Post Office closures. There is nowhere that I know of where I can walk into a building and post something via DHL or TNT etc. If there was money in that side of the post office business then I'd have thought they'd have all been bought out by our rivals. I'm sure the Post Office has lost a lot of business from direct debits, online banking, postal car tax and pensions etc but I think the newer methoids are better.

To Speedley,
The only reason we deliver their mail is the goverment telling us to accept their undercutted prices.

Picket.
Of course I am worried that R M could be privatised
I believe along with many of the people I work alongside that we should have ownership of our company alongside all british people.
Not a foreign company.
But it does seem at the moment that our union is allowing the wrong thing to happen, I don't know why.
At the end of the day I am only a Postman.

Excellent idea sw. Since as we are constantly being told RM is dead in the water and doomed to terminal revenue decline, perhaps the govt. should offer a sweetener to enable a workforce buyout. Set the price at say ,minus £7 billion we take control of the pensions and business ,run it as a non profit making company, reinvesting in service and staff  demand the same type of regulation as the utility sector and stiff our "real" customers with big price rises while subsidising public mail :Very Happy

Interesting idea Belial.
You seemed to miss the point completely. But never mind.
I was asking for real solutions but your comedy solutions were good---Basically lets go bankrupt P.S Royal Mail is the best in the WORLD.
