cars on delivery revisited

Post by wolfie citizen smith »

I was under the impression that if you had business insurance for your car, which had to be shown to the DOM, then you were insured to carry only 1 delivery pouch to the start of your round. All other bags still had to go out with the drivers to be placed in the box(s) provided (if your lucky to have one) or bag meets. However if all your delivery bags are placed within your private vehicle then business insurance will cover you if your vehicle was to be broken into, stolen, or burnt, etc, but Royal Mail however will place you fully responcable and sack you for not safe guarding customers mail...

Or am I just talking jibberish and got it all wrong??????????

Cars are not a tool of the job, nobody should be using them.

As brothermagrew so kindly pointed you in the right direction I wont add a link but remember the following points:

You can get different types of business cover - so you could have Insurance to cover your whole walk.

However, to be covered properly you will need to have Fully Comp. Reason if your Insurance is 3rd Party Fire or Theft then the stolen items will be covered and Royal Mail will claim against your insurance.

However, the damage to your Car will come out of your insurance or your pocket.

Also if you have an accident whilst using it for work and your insurance is not Fully Comp, then Royal Mail only cover the costs of the 3rd Party if you are found at fault, they will not repair your car that up to you.

yet another piece of fine documentation relating to Royal Mails own policies, which I will gladly thrust in the face of my unit rep who has allowed by not challenging the DOM regarding cars on delivery, because of whom I have spoken to within our unit regarding this topic, they are completely unaware of the rules and I feel my popularity will now decrease....Oh well sh*t happens.

thank you my friend :wave

Brother wolfie now don't go off half-cocked at your unit IR Rep, be nice and diplomatic to him / her, and ask them politely are you fully aware of the contents of Royal Mail's policy on the use of private cars being used for delivery purposes. As the CWU official policy is for NO use of private cars someone has to make them aware of the rules. Popularity my friend doesn't come into the equation, it is about doing what's right.

In a recent CWU Voice Postal Edition November & December 2008 and an article entitled Royal Mail taking advantage of own-car drivers (page 6) the CWU Assistant Secretary Bob Gibson replied:

Royal Mail will not do anything about this while our members continue to use their own cars, savng the business both time and money, in an increasing number of cases, our members are driving around uninsured which can have serious and far reaching consequences. There is really only one answer - don't do it!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
