Rather think you'd have to become a lino if you wish to let go your morals / principles etc as c.w.u reps do not travel on the gravy train in my experience
it's rather a thankless task usualy undertaken by those who wish to protect us as best they can time all you realised just whats involved in being a rep if of course you have any beef over it you can always put yourself up for election .........but guess you ain't got the balls

It's only the ones at HQ, who earn any money for representing us. Which is probably why, we have good local Reps (at least in my area). But HQ seem to be totally out of touch with what's happening in the real World. :hmmmm

Would you really expect an honest "yes" answer to that question.

As an aside could I point out that your dissatisfaction at your branch is self evident as you keep posting about it (which is your prerogative) but I am not sure what your ultimate goal is. Posting complaints on here about your branch while good for stress relief and your own peace of mind, won't actually accomplish anything as RMC has nothing to do with them. Some members on here are reps, committee members or ordinary Union members but they are not here to defend the union or its actions, just to pass comments and well intentioned advice and guidance. If you really want to change the Union locally or nationally perhaps you may get more mileage if you addressed them directly rather than through a forum.

Still I am looking forward to your next post about the Union or Royal Mail in general.

TBT thanks for those wise words i shall take them on board.. but not on board the gravy train.
i have no ultimate goal i seek only knowledge and story's from people on rmc to see if they have experienced some of the rotten things that i have seen other people do just to get a day off work or an easy duty or even full time release an overnight stay or a paid week away to conference, sign away good agreements, make deals with royal mail behind the members backs.. the list is not exhaustive
being in the pocket of royal mail has its advantages for some people who claim to be trade unionist's while dealing with the devils of destruction i am merely asking people on rmc are there such people/reps where they are or are they all over here.

i have came across some class reps and officials who would never give away the members terms and conditions for a ride on the gravy train but sadly they don't last to long in the job.
some of the posting i put on here are for a laugh its called northern Irish humor.. sorry if people don't have any....

lighten up people you never know the day the good lord will take the chewing gum from your mouth.

im not crazy im just a little unwell. :angel

Marky, please don't be so defeatist about it. There are still good Reps out there. Lots of us have great faith in our local Reps, which was hard earned by them. I have of course come across crap ones. But whenever we end up with that type, we don't vote for them, when they come up for re-election. :wave

From what you've said, I assume that you have had good Reps, but they haven't stuck with it. If so, please try to get as may of your Collegues as possible, to give whatever support they can to good Reps in the future. Then they will be more likely to stick with it. It's a very stressful job (if done properly), and is often thankless. People are more likley to keep going, if they feel appreciated. :hmmmm

I also know that recently, there were some problems with HQ, and your Reps were forced out. But if that's what you are referring to, then assuming that they weren't expelled from the Union. You can just try to talk them into standing again, and vote them back in.

I hope this is of help to you.

Marky it's not all about the rep, he can only be as good as his members allow him to be. I used to be a rep years ago and found that although there were a lot of my members who wanted something changed or were against something, when it came to action there was no back up. Yes there are always a few people who abuse the system, (happens in all walks of life), yet there are good reps who do the job because they believe in it.
By the way not a rep now, so my advice would be take the good with the bad or even better mate, have a go at the job yourself, you never know you may be brilliant at it.

without reading all comments, My view is that relating to our division is.....I believe in all from HQ down to division, this is because I believe we pay them for our services, however from experience Area and Local Reps are in there position for the power crazy iconisium and believe that they are only interested in there own self importance, rather than helping every single member within there area/unit...
I am not saying this is the case around the country just within our division... :cuppa

In my office the REP is a complete plonker the only thing that interests him is time off, hes the health and safety Rep the Unit Rep and the ULR Rep. His whole day is spent trying to engineer time off the only agenda is his own. He has got the position such a bad name that no one is interested in standing for office.

This ULR position is really a laugh, here we have someone with no qualifications what so ever advising us on what we should learn and telling us to read books all of a sudden he is a teacher of men the sad thiong is he has never read a book in his life. A few years back our office was out on strike and this guy actually arrived for work early to avoid his colleages on the picket line and worked as normal with 2 other strike breakers. Now he is acting the big CWU man and avoiding work by going to meetings and briefings, In my opinion our union is at its lowest ebb because it is filled at both top and bottom with spineless opportunists like this. I am seriously withdrawing my sub.

Don't let people push you around Marky. Stand up for what you believe in, or you will get pushed around, your whole life!

I know that things are worse in NI, than here on the mainland. But surely it's better to live life with dignity, rather than live a lie, because you're afraid. Isn't it?
