change of hours for Christmas pressure

Post by Timelord »

Can anyone advise me?

I usually work 5am - 1.30pm, but for the pressure period my duty has changed to 11am - 7pm (I'm a reserve). I'm willing to accept the change but some colleagues think that the manager can't change your hours, is that true?

If he's moved all the reserves onto the same shift then there's probably nothing you can do about it but if it's just you then I'd put in a grievence against him.

The following is taken from the Pay and modernisation agreement.
"New ways of working – Employees will be treated fairly, with respect, and will be expected to be flexible. The opportunity to perform more flexible attendance patterns will be introduced to improve alignment to workload, increase efficiency and provide a better work-life balance for employees.

Changes in start times should take account, as far as possible, of individual circumstances"

If anyone has a problem with these vastly different start / finish times and has reasons for not being able to comply with them, then they should firstly approach their line manager. Flexibility is a two way street and although any reasonable request should not be refused, personal circumstances must be taken into account. :Very Happy

Thanks for the replies. Two out of 4 of us are going to have the late shift apparently, but the duties haven't been posted yet!
