Pegasus -another bright idea going very wrong
Pegasus hasn't arrived at my D.O. yet, but i was speaking to my postie yesterday who told me that they have had to scrap Pegasus in their office in Sudbury as there was too much mail coming back. He also told me that Colchester D.O. have had over 40 cut offs last week alone and Managers are being brought in from all over the area to deliver, and this before the Christmas Pressure has even started!! Any other offices having similar problems with Pegasus?

It seems that everywhere that Pegasus has been brought in has from required some tweaks (in offices that have fully engaged the staff and the union reps) to offices that have been a total disaster (these offices have just pushed everything through as a being correct without working out details with the staff).
My office has had a Pegasus revision going now for 18 months and it still gets binned mainly due to the fact that the managers have done all the revisions themselves without asking us, at the last meeting they wanted 120 hours until we asked what savings had been made already but the DOM then refused to tell us (and his boss
) so that was knocked back until they let us know what is happening.

Our office in the process and should be completed by the end of January.
It seems that most walks will become 25% larger for the 3.5 hour delivery span. That leaves us with 2 hours (+30mins break) to prep the letters, flats and packets, do redirections, budle up and bag up and cycle to the delivery and back ... in 2 hours?
I have no real objection o longs and shorts and I appreciate that there are busy periods but if they want more than a 30 hour week out of me then they'll have to give me a matching contract.

Would they be able to "get" you on performance issues if you work to your time and don't complete, if they have not tested you or your walk.your_postie wrote:all very well untill the next stage when they have you on 'performance issues'disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Just work the hours paid

. What I am trying to say is they have to have documentation that they had concerns about your performance, and addressed them to you at the time. They cannot lump it in with an attendance procedure surely.
they'll av you by hook or by crook. they know if we all work to their rules the jobs don't stack up, so their next weapon will be 'performance issues'

Of course they will...they already have an unagreed performance testing procedure they tried on me...
I was told it was going national in the new year with or without union approval....
They will say Pegasus says your walk can be done in time, so if you extend it is your fault for being so slow...there will be no docket and if you cut off you will be perfomance managed out the business...
Its all over.....the CWU are finished in Royal Mail...

seen this done in another Industry - a lot got put on poor performance for taking a unauthorized break - they were straight up though ! - the old way was charges and hearings - but they tried lumping everything into " poor performance " - no matter how flawed everything was - we'd no union representation until the final No.3 stage - it was abused to sort a lot of petty vendettas out or an alternative to charges that wouldn't stick .madelin4 wrote:Sure dont they already do the performance thing???Well that will be me then, as i can only work the hours im paid.
They'd only back off if you threatened them with a Tribunal or got the paid Union Official in - sold down the f**k**g river !
With RM it's going to be hard stopping the braindead machine once it starts rolling
they've already tried trumped up preposterous charges at Burslem like Abuse of Union Position - encouraging people not to cooperate with management - sounds like revenge for RM not getting that 2 hrs compulsory unpaid
MURDERERS. Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via DHL. You will never see it again.

Pegasus would slaughter me as, on paper, I have relatively few delivery points. But as they are all rich b**gers they all get sackloads of mail! Generally 6 houses equals a bundle. And nobody ever thinks about PACKETS!!!

Expecting a certain level of performance is fair enough, but if RM abandon proper guidelines and procedures for measuring performance, then the final nails in the coffin of this service, will be hammered in.
If people cannot get done in the time that they are allocated, and RM are refusing to pay them for any additional time they work, then people will do what it takes to get it done on time. Wilful delay, dumping and destroying mail, incorrect delivery procedures and speeding to name just a few, will spiral out of control.
I think the next logical step for RM, will be to get the law changed so they can cut the service from six days to five, rather than these compicated issues.

If a delivery is going over 88% call rate then pegasus terms of reference for my area accepts this and the delivery is planned accordingly.
If a aggrement comes out for increased delivery spans then we could in theroy turn around and say to RM our deliveries are allready that size and their grand master plan will be in shreds!
My deliverey is within 3.5 hours and thats doing the job properley using both of my double drop boxes to keep pouch weight down.
RM prep test uses a figure of 11 in my office/cluster yets its allready been reported that manchester have to achive 16 to keep RM happy, different figures all around the country is no good to anybody and totally stupid idea.
Individual Performance Standards aggrement says 25 letters a min for RM 2000 frames, so the question is does 25 translate into 11 on the RM prep test or to achive 11 do OPGS need to prep at higher rate than 25.
16 on a prep test I would be out for the count, totally impossible for me, but 11 isnt exactly a million miles away from being a realistic figure.
Going back to pegasus one delivery has already proven to be wrong and the DOM has taken action to make the delivery smaller and given the duty less IPS time which means more prep time.
Re pick starts next week for FT staff PT already done and dusted.

Pegusus starts end January in our office. I'm sure it will be far from perfect.
However, rumour has it that a certain amount of PT staff will have hours increases and i'm near top of list. So part of me looks forward to it. Something had to be done anyway, there are massive differences between duties in my office. Some clearly 4 hour +.........amazingly most of the tough, furthest away duties are PT 22.5 duties.

I would say Pegasus would be considered a success in our office - from a managers perspective.
Most posties cut so many corners it made it easy to cut out jobs, make the walks longer as they used their own cars, continued to come in really early, rush threw ASAP and race out of the office without breaks.
Saying that, there are a few individuals that 'do the job properly'
and that's when those poor managers are then seen walking the streets delivering the mail that was not delivered in the specified time.
Oh the shame!
