Accident at work = stage 1?

At every stage of the procedure there is an opportunity for employees to provide an explanation for their absence(s) and for mitigating factors to be fully taken into account. Accidents which happen in the course of Royal Mail work would normally be discounted.

I would read the whole document though so that you are fully informed.

AODs are initially recorded as Sick Leave on HR computer, which will then issue a Stage letter to your Manager to follow up.
Take a Rep in with you to your interview. Your Manager should notify HR that it was an AOD which as you say should not count towards a Stage being issued.
I don't understand why they don't record it as an AOD in the first instance, but the official reason is that it is so that
your Manager (who might have changed) is aware of the AOD, and can take any follow up action that might be required.

excellent work unfortunately in a lot of cases managers are asked to be judge jury and executioner on who is culpable for the accident at work if the posty is found culpable he or she will still get a stage warning and some of the cases i have dealt with have been ridiculous i.e posty meant to crack his head open on staircase etc

it's what RM want to hear , no matter how ridiculous

I had an accident on Duty back in Oct 07. Since then I have been off twice with sickness. On both occasions, the line manager has summond me to an interview (one is this friday!). Just because it is an accident on duty does not mean thay will discount it!

The reason that they issue stage warning for everything is because if they don't they have to write an explantation giving all the reasons why it was not issued (this was told to me by a manager in a discussion about the attendence procedure) and I'll give an example of how bad it is:
A woman fell pregnant at my DO but a few weeks later she had a miscarriage which resulted in her being off sick, whenever she came back she was issued a stage warning, which was only removed whenever the union threatened legal action.

In my area they will issue a stage warning for an accident on duty if you are partly or fully responsible for the accident. Not following all of Royal Mails safe working rules is the classic method used.

examples include lifting overweight object demonstrate how you checked its weight before attempting lift.

lifting packet or bag over shoulder height. hurt yourself ? your responsible

pulling 2 yorks at once, clipped ankle/ your fault

slipped and hurt yourself, are you waring rm shoes/boots , are they in good condition, is the tread worn

ect ..... oh yes and if you try and work safely your an arkward inflexible militant trouble causer

ahhh thats what makes it " a great place to work"

Had my interview and thankfully they have not issued the warning

That has relieved me of some sterss I did not need.
