RE: Catering and Vending VAT pricing

You will be aware that the Government have announced that they will be reducing the rate of VAT from 17.5% to 15% effective from 1st December 2008 for a period of 13 months. We have received correspondence from the business detailing price reductions due to be implemented by Monday, 8th December in managed sites and by the 19th December in the smaller sites and vending only operations.

We have been informed that whilst it is not practical to reduce all prices accordingly Quadrant will be reducing the prices of some of their key staples by more than the VAT reduction to compensate for those prices they are unable to change i.e. vending machines only take silver coinage so it will be impossible to reduce prices on vending products by 1 or 2 pence. Price reduction highlights are:

Chips Reduction of 5p
Main Meal Offers Reduction of 5p
Hot Beverages in Canteen Reductions of 1-2p
Core Breakfast Items Reduction of 1p
Vended Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha Reduction of 5p

Would all branches ensure this LTB is given the widest possible circulation so our members are aware of the price reduction.

A highlight to me would be standard tea costs and canned fizzy drinks from a vending machine.

Still they obvisouly dont drink the stuff of us commoners in HQ

I can never understand why the pricing in the canteen is so complicated. For example, you buy a Sausage Sarnie, go to the till to pay, they key in for 2 slices of bread, cost of margarine spread on the bread and then the cost of each sausage, why don't they just have a set price for the complete product?

I think ours are about £1.20, its cheaper to pop down to McDonalds

All we have is a coffee machine that is empty most of the time and a vending machine that has nothing in it that you want but I suppose it's OK because we only spend between 1 1/2 and 2 hours in the office and the rest of the time out on delivery (this applies to rurals only).

The VAT was cut from 1st December and therefore they cannot charge you 17.5% VAT after that (they can increase their net price to allow for the reduction but they HAVE to charge the correct rate of VAT).

And before anybody jumps to RM's defence saying that they didn't have the time to implement the changes, everyone else has managed it
