4 and a half hour delivery

Heard today that 4 and a half hour delivery is now happening January or February at latest, they will do away with all drivers and give a small van for 2 posties, posties take out their 2 walks, all parcels, special deliveries and firms for the 2 walks, the walks do not change, you take the van home. They are just taking the p--- out of us now. !!!

this is supposedly coming in ,in our office
also doing away with part timers and making it an all FT office

tried it in our office but the vehicle head honcho said the cost outwayed the benefit and scuppered that plan lol

if it is a trial office then i think they can do it but if not no. 3.5 hrs is the agreement.having said that agreements and royal mail arent worth the paper they are written on.

Most of our rural rounds have been 4 and a half hours for the last year or so, as i understand it the 3 and half hour delivery span only applies to town walks

Most of the rurals in my DO have now pushed the 5 1/2 delivery (with one pushing 6 hours), the 4 1/2 hour was brought in at SDD and because of developemnet has seen an increase in duties.

It's my belief the 3 1/2 delivery span should cover any job that has a walking element even some with part 'rural' e.g a small estate tagged onto it. If the job is a pure rural then the extra delivery span is brought into play this because the 'rural postie' in theroy does a lot less walking and it may even have a collection on the job

In my DO all rurals have vans which is the excuse they give for the +3 1/2hour delivery.

So that can't be right. According to the official H&S (not Royal Fails) you are only allowed to do 3 1/2 hours max due to "fatigue" as per the good old starburst!!!! IDK whats going on anymore as it's all a bit cloudy!

Take my word for it - they ain't pulling the plug on anything - they're ostrich like in dealing with the problems this park and loop or any changes really - pay and modernisation 2008/2009 has turned out to be a blank canvas for Royal Mail to impose any and all changes without murmur - have the Mail Centre ballots gone ahead yet? and what a time to choose, how many posties wants to strike at this time of year, probably the most expensive.

Well I would go so far as to say it has been a resounding nightmare. Overtime - up, sickness - up, packets by the york full, bringing in people from other offices on their days off, suspending some park and loops to use the vans to ease the packet situation, - everyone is astounded that this system is still running.
Apparently a full time union official having listened to a local rep, who is doing park and loop, give his verdict stated that there is no reason for it not to work - these people are like RM we talk - they don't listen. My opinion is the CWU are concerned with the CWU not the members or the problems at shop floor level. Of course I don't see the BIG picture - as it is frequently pointed out by the union - which is a euphemism for them not knowing or caring what the fecks going on.

It sound's like it is an unmitigated disaster and a shameful waste of royalmail's limited resources at a time when money is tight and the royalmail's reputation hang's by a thread!. :cfo & :lfo Allan turn your hearing-aid up as one of the hundred and twenty odd thousand has spoken.
