Bag Check

Hi ive been with royal mail 14 months now, and today when i went back to depot to hand my undelivered parcels back my boss shouted me in office and said can i have a bag check, where he went right through my bag, i had 9 p739 packets which i could'nt deliver, and 3 mis sort letters, is this the norm as ive not had this done to me before?

yes our line manager checks bags most days but its normally first thing in the morning think to see if yourve took any thing home dont effect me as im a driver an bring all 739s back when i hand in van

Yup,if we find any missorts out on delivery ,we've to go back with them,we were told that a few months ago,a bit of a pain but hey the van is'nt a Flintstones van,it runs on diesel not on my legpower.

She went back to the DO at the end of her shift, why would they take action for having missorts in her bag?

Surely - if the item cannot be delivered within the time allocated for the duty then it becomes "undeliverable" and should be endorsed and returned to the office via pouching off for redlivery. What if you picked up a walk prepped by an idiot and had 20+ missorts - do you have to walk back round with them ? Claiming another 30 minutes or approximately £4.35 to deliver after your duty time finishes is hardly in line with Adam Scrooge's philosphy on making us profitable. He only wants plenty of reasons to use discipline to reduce the workforce.

you only cover the walk once dont go back to deliver missorts give them to your driver if you have one or pop them back in a post box. do not take them home for the next day if you get caught with mail in your bag they will try and do you for willful delay. this can lead to dismissal on first offence.

Because we are not to bring any mail back to the office, unless it is to be a kill off, but a general missort has to be delivered, i raised the question that if a foot man has to make his way back to the start of his delivery he will be well over time and was told that under no circumstances to bring mail back that was due for delivery.

Sorry but your managers talking toot. If you have missorts and to re-deliver would take you over your time, you bring them back. Or mark them with a ms (for missorted) and your initial and pop them in a post box. There is NOTHING they can do. Everyone makes mistakes and missorts are just that. They would not have a hope in hell of disciplining you.

Its also one of the most depressing places to work, Ive been with them for 2 years and pretty much sick of it, Im ok when I get out of the office but inside its a joke.

Had this issue with a manager months ago and because i dont prep the round i reckoned it were not my problem......stuck by my guns and he eventually agreed i'd be paid to go back and redeliver if it went past my time. The round in the question was more a straight line than a compact area so ........although the will was there my feet became the boss

i still bring them back and endorse as missorted.

The pic is acceptable under the current regime. A pal of mine went there recently and was utterly horrified.

As for mis-sorts, we are told to bring them back endorsed MS, similar to what greynut said. Conduct coding people for one missort would be impossible in an environment where cages of mail(sort) are delayed by management for days for "operational reasons".

In our place, when we went into SDD, one walk didn't go out at all for 5 days. Same DOM in charge now. He can have no argument against one or two missorted/failed letters with his record.
