Dog bites and compensation..

I received a bite on my backside today that punctured the skin and has left bruising. I was told by a work colleague that I might be able to claim compensation.
Can anyone tell me if this is the case, and if it is then why haven't I heard of it before as this is my third bite since working for RM.

You need to speak to your local rep and ask him for a LS3 form and fill it out ASAP,take a photo of your injury as well and get your Dom to also do his bit when it comes to Dog Attacks.Your area Health and Safety rep should then deal with your completed form and pass it on to our unions solicitors who will decide if they will take up your claim.Just make sure you have as much info as possible when it comes to filling out the form it will help your claim big time.Good luck and get well soon.

Thanks for your reply. I was also wondering whos responsibility it is to tell me this, as my last bite was a lot worse than this one, and nothing was said. Is someone not doing their job properly? The only reason I found out about this, was because I happened to mention it to a work colleague in passing. It has also made me think is there a similar scheme for accidents while on duty.

Im sure the LS3 form covers all these areas as well.I suppose it is your reps job to let members know that these forms are available to them when things like dog bites,slips and trips etc happen to posties when performing there duties.Maybe they just forgot.

Under The People Management Framework - Dealing with Dog Attacks - Good Practice Guide (and every DOM should have a copy of this Guide in their respective office). There is such a provision as the Dog Attack Compensation Scheme - and a copy of the "Dog Attack Compensation Claim Form" is at Section 5 of the Guide. This forms part of the Dog Attack Compensation Scheme. The scheme is intended to cushion employees who are off sick as a result of a dog attack against the effect of reduced earnings during sick leave. The form may be used for any dog attack provided that:-

1. The attack was reported at the time it occurred and injury was recorded in the Accident Book (now done electronically via the RM ERICA System) in normal course (the term 'injury' may also cover attacks which cause mental stress without resulting in physical injury).

2. The employee is absent from duty as a direct result of the dog attack.

3. The absence is for more than one week and any period in excess of this first week is covered by a doctor's note or hospital certificate.

4. The employee has lost overtime and premium payments by being absent due to the attack.

However, as you have not indicated that you actually spent time off as a result of your recent and past dog attacks then I don't think in this instance that this will be applicable to you. Do however at your earliest convenience ask your DOM for a look at the said Good Practice Guide on Dealing with Dog Attacks. Have a good read through and then you'll have a better insight on what actually should be happening as a result of dog attacks.

Its a form provided by the Union for members to fill out when we are involved in AODs or Dog Bites etc.We cant be the only office to use them have you guys not got them?,our area reps are always reminding people to fill them out in case they can claim a bit of compensation.
I will get one and scan it on here but it wont be untill Tuesday.

LS is the Unions designation for Legal Services forms of which there are:

LS1 Drivers Protection Scheme/Road Traffic Act Prosecution.

LS2 Industrial Disease claim.

LS3 Accident on/off duty/Dependant.

LS4 Fatal Accident.

LS7 Crimes of Violence on/off duty/Dependant (Bandit Attack).

LS14 Appeal For or Against Medical Retirement.

LS18 Gives details of claims and should be issued to members when form LS2, LS3, LS4 and LS7 are issued.

I kid you not,our DO ,two weeks after a dog attack received a letter of complaint from the owner backed up with a vets written statement complaining that their pet had contracted a nasty human incubated blood complaint after chewing on toxic postie

Dog Bite

well i can inform that there is a form called APPENDIX - E DOD ATTACK COMPENSATION SCHEME this form should help you recover any loses from overtime.
However using the LS3 form and registering your dog attack with the DWP is a wise choice, unfortunatley if the owners of the dog that attacked you have NO INSURANCE it will be hard to claim any personal Injury against the owners...

No mate i was not trying to do that at all,not everyone on the site knows what these abbreviations in certain threads stand for.Things like
SSOW=Safe Systems Of Work
LTB=Letters To Branches
LS3 Form=Legal Service
And all the other ones we use,if i offended you i am sorry but it was not meant that way.
