NEVER leave mail bags unattended or insecure at any time.

Can you please confirm my thinking. This means when a postie is delivering mail on a cycle, every time they leave their cycle they have to take their delivery pouch with them? No matter what??? and obviously leave nothing in their side paniers!

You can leave your bag on your bike as long as you can always see it, but if it gets nicked i am 100% sure they will say you should not have left it on bike and you'll be sacked. Thats they way they work im afraid.

I did a cycle round and never left the pouch on the cycle - that was a no no, I cycled to the start of my delivery and scooted along the pavement banging letters through the box wherever possible, then I'd park up and lock and secure it. Walk the round with the pouch and then cycle to the next area, a bit like a solo park and loop on a bike.

Yes indeedy, but if we have to meet Royal Mails security standards then so be it!




the management team in our office knowingly allow all members to work in breach of security standards and health and safety standards when it suits.

Royal Mail can not have it both ways; they can’t knowingly allow post persons to cut security standards on a daily basis to get the job done and then reprimand them for doing so when they get caught out.

they allow all post persons to break the ‘mail integrity code’ brought in by Postcomm on January 2006.

so I think it's about time we did all they say we have to, don't you?

I was stopped by IB once whenever I was doing a bike delivery, I'd left my bike at the bottom of a path with my bag on it (but because it was the end of my duty there was nothing in my bag) but the guy from IB said that what I'd done was OK and reported it as so.
