Sick list.

I've heard from some oldens (one was my Dom ) that years ago the rep used to come around with a list of when you'd gone sick and tell you that next week or so,it was your turn to have a week off as you haven't had time off for a while.
Any of you guys had experience of this?Lucky beggars.

Second-hand info, but I know of a woman at a small DO whose sick record was so good, her manager allegedly told her she should consider taking a sickie so that the records of others in the office didn't look quite so bad by comparison

i have to say i agree with this now,never did before had a perfect record for years and then hit some trouble last year, and no, managers dont think anymore of you

in fact i was once told by a colleague that if things get bad you still get sacked/redundant along with everyone else, so yeah take it if you can, after all its another two weeks on your entitlement

At a Delivery Office near where I work a Postie got the push for his continual sick absence. He rejoined a while later, had a year without sick and won a car in the prize draw! You couldn't make it up.

I have also heard of people being told to take their sick leave, both on the Post and the Counter, I believe they used to be called 'Whitleys' or something similar.

i learnt the hard way to take time off sick.
I'd not had a single day sick for 11 months. then took a 2 days off sick with some kind of bug. came back into work on the 3rd day but obviosly wasnt as well as i though i was so went home again. since i had already had my back to work it went down as 2 absences and as a trialist at the time i got a stage one out of it. had i have taken the week off it would have been 1 absence and i wouldnt have got the warning. that was the last time i tried to be a good employee and rush back to work!
And they wonder why they loose so many man hours to people going off sick.

You are correct, the way forward calculated that each employee worked an average of 44 weeks per year, 6 weeks annual leave plus 2 weeks sick leave.

wasn't in the job long maybe 2 years, the area delivery rep came up to me and said something similar so i took it! nowadays i keep an eye out for when i was last sick, how times change eh?

i remember when they used to take holiday entitlement plus 2 weeks sick (spread across the year so each pay packet was the same) out of our night shift allownce - even if you hadnt gone sick.

Then when the union fought and got that changed so that now we get night shift allowence for our first 4 weeks holiday but still dont get if for any sick days taken (meaning each pay packet shows a differnet nsa depending on how many days you worked) people complained because the were to stupid to understand that unless you go sick loads we get more this way.

hi, a postman at our office,cut the top off his finger on a sharp letter box. had it sewn back on, registered it with dss as an accident (on r.m advice) on return to work was told "what was he doing putting his hand near a letter box!". then given a stage one!!! another fine example of a caring employer!!! regards dongash opg

Actually you can have up to thirteen days or three seperate periods of sickness before you trigger a stage 1 interview. If you go off Monday to Friday, and resume on a Saturday (you can phone in and resume on an 'exempt day' though this won't work for you delivery people on six day weeks) it will only count as five days, so you can have two five day and one three day period in twelve months without triggering a stage 1.
Royal Mail wants to crack down on sickness (it is one indicator of the general low morale) and one of their proposals is to stop sick pay for the first three days of any period of sickness apparently
I went for about eight years without any sickness, but after Leighton sent me the worthless 'holiday voucher' I decided I might as well have some time off sick - I am sick of the way things are going.
