Health and safety law 2008

This booklet provides a fully updated guide to UK law on health and safety at work. It includes information on all the recent developments in health and safety law including the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 as well as new regulations, changes to regulations and new HSE guidance issued in the past year as well as details of important court cases on asbestos, stress, violence and work equipment. Working time - a guide for union reps

This booklet is a concise guide explaining the requirements of the Working Time Regulations and parallel regulations using recent case law examples to highlight important changes. Most workers are now covered by the Working Time Regulations (WTR). This booklet explains the requirements of WTR and parallel regulations using recent case law examples to highlight important changes. The main Working Time Regulations came into force in 1998 and since 2003 have affected workers previously excluded (e.g. in road and rail transport, offshore and others). The Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations came in 2005. The continuation of the "Opt-Out" is once again being considered by the EU Parliament. Subjects covered include; What are who the regulations apply to, Limiting working time, Night work and shift working, Rest periods and breaks, Annual leave, Working time agreements, Enforcement. The WTR regulations provide workers with a mixture of entitlements that can be upheld by complaint to a tribunal and duties on employers that are enforceable...

Safety, health and equality - a guide for union reps

This booklet looks in detail at gender-related health and safety issues, union policies, agreements and guidance from professional bodies covering vulnerable groups such as migrant and disabled workers, temporary and agency workers and black and ethnic minority workers. Safety reps need to be aware of the connections between safety and health and equality. Subjects covered include; Gender, safety and health, Black and minority ethnic workers, Disability, safety and health and the health and safety of other vulnerable workers.

Together, these booklets series also includes many health and safety topics. The guides will give Safety and IR Reps the information they need in discussions with employers to ensure workers are being protected.
