Changing my start time.
Currently I am on a 5hr a day contract (25 hours) but my lino keeps trying to change my start time to suit the round I am on.
I should start at 9.00 each day with a round thrown in but the delivery I am on at the moment means I do not leave the office until around 11am as thats when the van leaves for the other lads at that delivery point. Obviously with meal relief and getting back to the office time this only leaves me around 2hrs to do a 4hr ish delivery. Everyone else at that neck of the woods in on a much bigger contract (min 30 hours) which I do not feel is very fair.
Can the Lino force me to start over an hour later? (10am), I thought flexibility was a maximum of 30mins from usual start times but I would like to have this confirmed by someone in the know
Every single day, regardless of workload, I seem doomed to go over my allotted time.

Why should you start at 9 ?
Are you the holder of the duty ?
The usual start time you quote are i bvelieve proper to the attendance times of a duty.

No your not duty bound to go over, just do your hours,it seems that all managers are trying the same with staff that have 25hour contracts, start later and put them into a position that they feel they have to work over the time,i say put the ball back into the managers court, make it their problem just do the job and stick to the rules they can't do anything make sure you've got all the bits you need to know from your union rep.

Check your contract. Mine states "Your hours of work will be allocated by your manager. However, these hours may change from time to time after giving you reasonable notice." So I would say your manager can make you start an hour later and finish an hour later given "reasonable notice".

but if your on a 30 hour contract you have to throw your entire walk in and believe me its impossible to do it in the time givenIPS wrote:Currently I am on a 5hr a day contract (25 hours) but my lino keeps trying to change my start time to suit the round I am on.

"30 Hours not enough" - I would say that your duty is too large and get it checked out. At my place FT do 2 hours IPS and 6 Hours each day on their duty. So at my place even FTs have only have 30 hours per week to do their duty.

TBT, If you break a 6 hour day down : 30 mins break, 30 mins traveling, 3.5 hour delivery. It leaves 1.5 hours to prep,do redirections, sort D2D and tie up. now on a Monday and Tuesday you could do this, but if you'r on a different walk every week it takes time to learn the frame so you'r still struggling to finish on time, but the rest of the week is a nightmareTrueBlueTerrier wrote:moggymoz wrote:but if your on a 30 hour contract you have to throw your entire walk in and believe me its impossible to do it in the time givenIPS wrote:Currently I am on a 5hr a day contract (25 hours) but my lino keeps trying to change my start time to suit the round I am on.

Ah your a floater - it is more difficult for them I know as I was one - I would rather do a banger of a walk everyday rather than be a floater again. I get about 1.5hrs to prep on a 600+ walk but as I do it everyday I can do it faster and also what helps is that I can do all the D2Ds Mon and Tues which saves time later in the week.

id say hes a bag carrier at our office its
22.5 Hours = pick up bag and deliver therefore D2D should be prepped for them
25+ hours = Bundle up as well therefore the prep D2D unless dom tells someone else to put them in.
Remember D2D are done in company time

And I make it one hour 'lost' if you take into consideration meal relief, biking back and bag drops.

Throw in remainder of walk, redirections, band up, bag up and then wait for the van.dvbuk55 wrote:You start at 9, the van leaves at 11, what do you do between those times?IPS wrote:The van does not leave until around 11am.dvbuk55 wrote:Please forgive me if I appear a bit numb but if you have a 5 hour day and you only get 2 hours delivery time what are you doing for the other 3 hours?IPS wrote:Currently I am on a 5hr a day contract (25 hours) but my lino keeps trying to change my start time to suit the round I am on.

Changing my start time.
There's the rub - the waiting for the van - which the Manager will see as unproductive time and the current thinking is working the hours you are paid for and "waiting" isn't working.IPS wrote:Throw in remainder of walk, redirections, band up, bag up and then wait for the van.

I do see your point but as I stated, it depends on what round I am on that day. I do not see why I should alter my start time by 1hr+ to suit a Manager at a moments notice. This was a flexibility question and if it was a maximum change of 30mins or more :)
Also the others on that round (30+ hours) do not get the same treatment. Discrimination?
Thanks for all your input :-)
