Work Place coach

We have a vacancy and i quite fancy doing this, what is other folks experiences of being the coach?

Our workplace coach doesn't train anyone (that job is usually left for me

) but he is very good at sucking up to management so maybe it's just a reward for being such a creep

Been doing it for about 4 years now and have enjoyed it alot

I must have trained 20 -30 people in that time and my record is 3 at one go

( Dom was taking the piss a bit there)

You must be very patient and chilled out to perform this roll as it can be very demanding at times.I went on a course a couple of years ago to be trained how to teach new entrants the ins and outs and found it very helpfull(i also have 22 years experience and was trained at the post office school in kings Cross).As long as the person you are training listens and takes on board what you are doing it should all work out ok.You will be given a booklet and coaches tips etc and need to sit down with your Dom and select a walk to train the person on(in our office we, where possible leave them on a walk for 6-12 weeks,then they go on reserve).Its £30 a week extra(not sure if thats pensionable) and may well involve doing other tasks within the office like updating IPS overheads etc.Dont be put off by that as it does not happen a lot,it all depends how your turnover of staff is to how busy you will be performing the role.Its a good feeling when after a few weeks the person who could not tie up a bundle of work is out on there own doing the job to a good standard.

Ask your Dom for his £30 a week allowance for every week you train them mate.You are entitled to it.

A weeks training

it's 2/3 days if you're lucky but these days you're more likely to get a map printed off Google Maps and just sent on your way.

There lies the problem friend.You know it, i know it and management know it,its no good taking someone out on a walk for a couple of days and then leaving them on there own,theres more to the job then that and the workplace coaches role is spread over 12 weeks covering everything the job entails and making sure these guys get the best possible start to being a postie.

Cheers johnnyp, i don't think you will find many people more chilled out or patient than me, your experiences seem to be what i think the role should be all about, im certainly no manager suck up or looking for an easy £30.

I feel sorry for new starters in our office, we have never had a work place coach

A bit like our office, we have 2, and I've yet to see them train anyone.

Spot on...our workplace coach is exactly the same, even the Line Manager thinks he is nothing but a creep. In the 2 and a bit years he has been a coach i can only remember him training one person! Easy money for doing sod all !!!

If people other than the workplace coach are asked to coach someone say yeah as long as I get the £30 for the privilege. See how long they take to walk off and ask someone else...
