At a friend of mines office there is a strong rumour they are about to ban the booking of extended delivery??? They have already banned booking on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. How they plan to do this i do not know.
Has anyone else come across this aggressive move by the lovely Royal Mail management teams??

What do they intend to do - call it another name?

Remember the following :

You cannot be forced to work beyond your contracted hours - overtime is a matter of goodwill and you are entitled to be paid for it.
If you are likely to go over - ask the Line manager what you are supposed to do - he must decide whether you cull the walk - do the overtime if you are willing to do so - or bring back what you have left at the time you need to be finished in order to return the undelivered mail to the office.

If you do the overtime as extended delivery - you are entitled to be paid and if going over by more than an hour you may also be entitled to additional relief time.

If the walk is culled it should be by cutting it off at the point you reasonably feel you can deliver to - not by streaming mail which will then be delayed for another delivery and will entail just as much work to remove or place aside from the walk frame.

What remains must then be delivered by any other person agreeing to do the overtime - it is the managers job to find someone to do this - not yours. They will then be entitled to overtime to do the part you have left unless there is a standing agreement on lapsed duties and they have free time to deliver within their duty time.

If the agreement is that you bring back undelivered mail then you must ensure that you work up until your finishing time and have the returned mail recorded by the duty PHG as the manager concerned will be long gone by that time. DO NOT leave the office before your contracted hours are completed.

If you have two or more satchels undelivered, remember what your safe weight limits are and if necessary finish with enough time to make two return journeys with the undelivered mail - or perhaps better all round to leave it in a locked pouch box by agreement with the LM or PHG and have a driver or the guy doing the overtime to pick it up.

It's time these people realised that there is no such thing as a free lunch - if staff are willing to work on bigger walks for longer hours RM must be prepared to pay for it.

Sadly, Postghost, Many CWU agreements are now shrouded in the mists of time or lying in tatters since the advent of “local” negotiations. The truth is that local agreements now seem to exist even at different ends of an office, let alone within postcode areas and many managers (and a few reps) make things up as they go along.

What I sent in above is the accepted practice as I understand it with the solid bit being that if you go over your contracted hours by agreement then you are paid at whatever the present overtime rate is and if you cannot or do not wish to work past your contracted hours then you do not have to.

How you deal with the coercion, tit for tat obstinacy or threats of prep testing that inevitably follow when you try to be a normal human being will depend on your experience, determination and to a large degree the support of colleagues or a decent rep – which is one of the reasons RMC is here.

I would, like you, welcome any clarification at an official level if any of my friends on here can help – but for the moment I hope my earlier post represents the common sense view that should keep you out of trouble and relatively well paid for your considerable exertions.

The only prob I see with this is the DOM or his mates (not durex) are biased. I recently had a round test midweek and played it by the book. Every time I got on bike, helmet went on. Every time I got off. helmet came off. even if it was yards away. I weighed bags. Framed up by the book. I filled in all paperwork. I was phuqed at the end of it and finished exactly on my time and yet still they say the round has room for more and itsa coming soon.

Rounds should be tested indipendently.

PS While I am here I must smack these three bell ends :cfo :cfo :cfo :lfo :lfo :lfo :mfo :mfo :mfo :mfo

Whats the point of testing the round then if we know what the answer will be? Never mind the CWU will save us. :chuckle

Seems to me that they test the round and inevitably it is over when doing it properly, they go by the times of the idjits in the office that come in early etc. etc. Then give it a few months and they want it tested again, more rows with CWU rep, never satisfied till they can somehow test it again but using someone they know will rush around....feel sorry for any office not represented these days!!
Lets hope all the Doms have plenty of wear in their shoes cos the more they keep upsetting us the more the goodwill disappears and the longer they keep making the walks the more cut offs and the more deliveries they do :arrrghhh .....we only have to do our time!!!! :whistle Their favourite saying now is if individuals want to make time from hard work ;liar perhaps they are just learning what hard work really is, sensible people find out what working properly means and stick to it. Hope they haven't made any arrangements for xmas they may be too knackered!!! :nana

A walk in our office has about 70% more work than most other duties (because of growth).

The funny thing is that a cycle begins when the postie cuts off and the mail remains undelivered the next day. This means that whilst he cuts off the next day, he is aslo able to complete more than was left the previous day.

So, a postie can effectively handle two walks per day if he only delivers it every other day. Now that is what I call an efficiency saving!
