The conduct code

Post by celerycelery »

Every thing these days seemed to revolve around "going down the conduct code". We've been threatened with it if re-directions put in wrong box, missorts left on frame and not sorted, leaving doors open, leaving kill offs on frames to do after completing duty and not wearing hi-viz jackets or helmets. 20+ years ago when i started the conduct code (or whatever is was called then) was a final straw for serious stuff (like stealing). Gone have the days of common sense when officer was taken upstairs given a bollocking or slap on wrist and told not to do it again. In the last few years i have heard of many people sacked, compared to 10-15 years ago when it seemed everything was done to stop people being sacked. How times have changed :cry

It's like the last days of the Reich. Common sense out of the window and everyone running round like headless chickens. you're right the managers love the conduct code. I reckon ours get off on sacking people.

The corporate culture of fear and intimidation comes directly from the top. The mistaken belief is that it will improve productivity;in reality the workforce simply retreats to safe practice and established rules, and give and take and goodwill evaporate . Management failure to appreciate the net contribution of this goodwill is symptomatic of corporate arrogance, but hey give em enough rope :chuckle

Once upon a time, this method of management was called Stalinism. Command and Control. Obedience or death. It was discredited decades ago. Royal Mail apparatchiks (Definition: An unquestioningly loyal subordinate, especially of a political leader or organization) who feather their own nests through this ideology, backed, unbelievably, by a Labour government, seem to think it's the new in-thing. History tells us our colleagues will only stand so much before they walk out. Xmas may well be the battleground.

Well I think that Managers today are far too soft.

Chatting should be punished by being strapped to the wheel of a gun carriage and a severe lashing.
Loitering - the same
More than 25 seconds in the lavatory - the same
Poisonous looks at the Manager, Line Manager or the Office stooge - the same
Taking unofficial smoke/tea breaks - the same
Leaving work in - the same
Refusing to work unpaid overtime - the same

Any other transgressions would be more severely punished - bunch of damned slackers. :evil/mad

Keel hauling is too bloody good for this bunch of ne'er do wells - why it would be almost like paying for them to take a swim at the local leisure centre, in any case that was for the wavy navy - what a bunch of cruising shirkers they were. :Very Happy
