What's in your letterbox?

Post by rhino49 »

I used to (and still do for that matter) hate Monday's on my route - always having to manoeuvre around bins and boxes of recyclable rubbish which now seem to be left outside gates and in drives until most customers come home in the evening.

Now I am beginning to hate every day because of the fight for letter box space.

Thursday almost all the routes boxes were filled with half a dozen assorted leaflets left in them by independent company's whose staff are not in the least concerned about delivery etiquette and left them hanging out in view of every would be burgler looking for an empty house, Friday they were full of free newspapers with more leaflets hanging out of them, and thinking I might be able to deliver unhindered on Saturday I was really p****d off to find several hundred letterboxes stuffed with a gadgets for the home catalogue. Needless to say this prolongs the time and effort to deliver the mail because we have been used to delivering it correctly and don't just leave it hanging out of the box.

These other DTD services get ours a bad name - they won't stop if the customer fills in an opt out form because they are fed up with the shoddy way their future rubbish is delivered.

At least in the old days we were out on our routes before other distributors were out of bed - now they are home before we start.

How do you cope with problems like these?

if there is any junk ie free newspapers, leaflets ect hanging out the letterbox. I just pull them out and throw them on the doorstep, so when the person gets home and see's it there they hopefully complain to the company who are delivering them who then b****ck the person whe is posting them thinking he is cutting corners and just throwing them on the doorstep.

Except we have customers who think WE deliver every single thing that goes through their letterbox, or in some cases what is left on the doorstep. The number of people who have complained to my office about shoddy delivery practices only to be told that it wasn't us is unbelievable.
When I find a letterbox stuffed I either rip it out or return the mail as undeliverable (and endorse it as such) for redelivery next day. I've done it a few times, obviously reporting the fact to a manager. Sometimes it is the householders fault, they leave these leaflets filling up their letterbox actually expecting you to shove it through as they are to lazy to pull it through. You really couldn't make it up.

True that. I get that too.

Today it was a volunteer delivering the Lib-Dem newsletter. He was practically following me round, the first half of the walk.
He said "I 'd hate to be doing your job". So I said "well, you are doing it, aren't you ? and at least I'm getting paid for it". But not in a nasty way. He seemed like a decent old guy.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

This realy annoys me too, one round I do - on a Wednesday it's bin day and local paper day, it's takes so much longer.
