ROYAL MAIL PENSIONS22.07.2008

That this House believes that securing a just agreement between the Royal Mail and the trade unions on the issue of pensions is crucial to the future of the postal service; recognises that the trade unions are adopting a reasonable negotiating stance acknowledging that the present status quo is not sustainable; further believes that any settlement reached must be at least as good as those arrived at elsewhere in the public sector in terms both of protecting the rights of existing members and giving hope for reasonable pensions in retirement to new entrants to the postal service; urges Royal Mail to re-open pension negotiations with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Unite; further urges the Government to review the 2007 commercial deal to ensure that the £1.2 billion set aside for a ColleagueShare scheme is redistributed to support improved pension reform for all Royal Mail Group employees; calls on the Government to undertake a full review of Royal Mail's reported accounts to ensure that there is more transparency and that further consideration is given to whether the existing £1 billion pensions escrow account can be drawn upon now; and strongly hopes that the Hooper Review of Competition and the future of Royal Mail will make appropriate recommendations on the issue of pensions.

So it's quite reasonable to guarantee fat cat bonuses and prop up free market gambling with public funds ,but good old Janet and John must accept an F'ing big cut in their promised /contracted pensions cos they are reasonable folk

We should have put our money into Icesave, then we would have the Government guaranteeing it,
rather than putting it into the supposedly safe RM pension schemes, which the Government owns.

Postal workers pension deficit = £3.4 billion because of Govt. pension holiday. 9/10/08 Govt donates £500,000,000,000,000 of our money to old school tie upper crust,Eton rejects, cos they made a booboo .Get real you saps there is no pot of gold this is brutal hard nosed financial reality.We can't bail you inefficient workshy proles out.

One of the ironies about this financial crisis is that it makes action on poverty look utterly achievable. It would cost $5bn (£2.7bn) to save six million children's lives. World leaders could find 140 times that amount for the banking system in a week. How can they tell us that action for the poorest is too expensive?

Guess what , Gordon just found one ,and it's worth £500 billion, even better it was our money all along, but now we are letting the banks have it so they can lend us our own money back and charge interest

No I don't remember saying that, but I'd be right if I did. Big bail out for a government department pension scheme (as in RM)? Yeah, dream on. Unrealistic then and pure fantasy now, some months later...

I will contact HQ to get a up to date list of sponsered MP'S as conference agreed to review the list and some may have been dropped whilst others may have been added.
