Dear Colleagues,

CWU MARCH AND RALLY – MANCHESTER
“Defending Postal Services – Fighting for Pensions – Stop the Closures”

MONDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER 2008
ASSEMBLE 11.30 CASTLEFIELD, RICE STREET OFF LIVERPOOL ROAD.
RALLY 11.45
MARCH 12.30

We advised Branches in LTB 655 of the forthcoming March and Rally to be held on Monday 22nd September 2008 at the Labour Party Conference in Manchester.

We know that Branches have been working hard with their Regional Secretaries to maximise attendance at the rally and I am pleased to report that we have members coming from virtually every CWU branch in the country.

We have placards, flags whistles etc. and we will be accompanied on the March by a pipe band. We also have a number of guest speakers. The event will be advertised to all Labour Party Delegates and we hope that they will join us for some of the event. It would be great also if you could bring your branch banners to create some colour on the day.

It is important that we protest against the continuing Mail Centre and Post Office closure programmes and the refusal of Royal Mail to re-open the discussions on RM Pension Reform. We hope to gain maximum media coverage on the day and that is why it is so very important that we get as many of our members there as possible.

We appreciate that some individuals have had difficulty getting release, but if there is any possibility of increasing the numbers we would be really grateful. This event will only be a success if we get hundreds of members on the march – we need to pull all the stops out.

I hope we can count on your branch to make this a well attended event.

Im going, got Monday booked as AL.

This will be one heck of a powerfull message we send to GB and co a message that rank and file LP members agree with.

Still im sure GB wont worry too much about a few pesky rank and file members will he? After all it down to them all over the country campaiging for Labour that against all odds might save his bacon at the next election.

Not as much as his meltdown in his own popularity!. Not since nevill chamberlin has a priminister been so hated as GORDON BROWN!. I cannot get the time off but will be there in spirit and my soul!.

I won't be there - if I'm going to be ignored it might as well be at home in my armchair. Still, cometh the hour cometh the no show at the polling station. Not that I look forward to a Tory PM - anyone else remember Maggie and the meltdown of manufacturing?

I left school in 1980 straight into a recession. 1 war, the miners strike, NI troubles getting worse, inflation sky rocketing, USA invading a Commonwealth country (Grenada in 1983), 3 million unemployed, manufacturing ripped to the bone, riots in major cities and towns. Yes the Conservative government of the 80s was a real success

"The times they are a'changing" - but not much, no miners strike - no miners, NI seems to be coming to grips with reality, inflation sky rocketing, USA invading everyone BUT commonwealth countries, 1.75 mil unemployed and rising, no manufacturing at all, people are quietly rioting this time - well more of an organised march really - I'm sure the sentiments are the same. Thank God for Maggies service based invisible earnings economy - I think our pay is pretty much linked to that - the invisible part especially.
