This is Ill Health Retirement yes? Get on to his unit or area rep who should then chase this up with local or area management.

hi there, been a while since I posted on here.

I know of someone I work with in the Mail Centre, full timer who is on nights and is eligble for IHR. The lady has worked for RM for 16 years entirely in processing (former PPN grade). She would like to take it but is weary about what kind of cash she is going to be offered. Anyone got any ideas??

Sorry, I am diversifying away from the subject on here a little.

Ta!

Cheers madelin4, I would also imagine this is subject to tax and NI deductions. Just a quick sum up then:

16 x 950 = 15200
12 x 430 = 5160 (based upon F/T nightshift with TPM)
TOTAL = £20360

then deduct tax and NI.

nice one, cheers!

I don't think it includes shift allowences, just your basic pay.
Plus any holidays accrued and I don't believe you pay tax or NI on any of it except the holiday pay.

If the person is unlilkely to be able to work for at least the next ten years or until normal retirement date (whichever is nearer) they would get medically retired with pension and lump sum roughly equivalent to EVR - her recent pension statement would give her an indication of what this would be.
If she is unlikely to be able to work for the next 9 months she would get a lump sum IHR payment which I believe is
about 9 months pay - around £15k.

Even better folks. I will pass this information on. Personally, if I were her, the lady who I posted the original post about, I would explore every avenue and possibilty of keeping my job and see if RM can tailor a duty specific to my needs where I am comfortable to work and that will cause me the least pain possible.

I am almost certain that she will be DDA, therefore seek out every possible avenue under the term "reasonable adjustment"...

Any thoughts on this?

What if a person can do another job and does not have to be out of work 9 months??? as in a job that is not as demanding ??
