PHASE 3 UPDATE FROM AREA MANAGEMENT
This is a transcript of a letter from our area management. Dear colleague: you will have probably noticed that you pay has increased by 1.5% recently and has been backdated to april 2008. This further wage increase is due to the implementation of the next phase of the national pay and modernisation deal agreed with the cwu last year. The implementation of phase 3 means we all have to continue to change our way of working to further improve flexibility. It is important to me that everyone fully understands thier roles in bringing about this change to the operational workplace with maximum benifit to our customers, to our people and to our buisness. What is phase 3 In simple terms we are changing the way we have worked to be more flexible and adaptive to changes in how we provide a word class sevice to our customer's. At the same time we are going to make our units as efficient and productive as possible to maximise profitability and enable royalmail to compete in the competitive enviroment we find ourselves in. It ia NOT about people not knowing where they are working, what thay are doing or what thier wages will be from one week to the next. We all need to work together over the comeing week's and month's to develop the expected outputs of this agreement and find workable solutions to some difficult topics. We are not going to do this overnight and we are not going to make knee jerk reactions to some of the more obvious isssues we face as a business and more locally in our units. PHASE 3 SPECIFICALLY COVERS: 1 New way of covering for each other and sensibly absorbing absences or increases in workload where time exists within normal duties. 2 Ensureing all paid hours are fully utilised 3 Makeing facilities available to cover and swap duties (subject to approval) 4 Weekly meeting between the manager and rep to plan workload allocation and the likely flexibility required for that week. We will also contiue to develop our ways of working to improve how we treat each other and build a better relationship between union and management. Discussions are being held locally and at area level with the cwu reps and managers working together to further develop existing phase 2 flexibile ideas and build on new phase 3 ideas generated at joint workshops and nominated sites throughout the country . We are specifically looking at traffic levels, efficiency and indoor/outdoor workloads in order to ensure that all paid hours are fully utilised. These new changes can be deployed quickly and i would ask everyone to get involed in developing the ideas within your own office thet will make these changes a success. Let's change together to secure our future. Yours sincerly ***** ******* Area general manager. Sorry it was a bit long but it's the latest news i have.

PHASE 3 UPDATE FROM AREA MANAGEMENT
thanks for reply on phase 3 part time ratio ... as these p/t duties increase will this covering walks apply to them also or does the cover required fall onto the shoulders of full timers ? I honestly cannot see how they can get walks covered for free as even ultra keen posties will struggle to make time if doing extra 25mins delivery for free in addition to prepping p/t walks. Working back from 1415 finish as official time then earliest first drop around 1030 minus breaks i cannot see how it can be done. Seriouse drop in mail volume req'd which has not been shown this week.

It say's within normal duty!. All time within duty must be utilized! this is not about working for free nor going home one hour early nor going over your duty time unless you are paid to do so ie overtime!.steviemac wrote:thanks for reply on phase 3 part time ratio ... as these p/t duties increase will this covering walks apply to them also or does the cover required fall onto the shoulders of full timers ? Re: PHASE 3 UPDATE FROM AREA MANAGEMENT
For our area has now had this imposition foisted upon it and the surrounding area's as well. Our only option is TO DO OUR JOB'S PROPERLY as the pay and modernization agreement was a SELL OUT and this is but the beginning of the end for us all.
