MDEC T&C:Conference.Update 7-6-07

Post by POSTMAN »

Conference acknowledges the improvements in terms and conditions that the union have secured for CWU members employed in the MDEC Network since the inception of address interpretation in 2001. During the intervening period however the job description/skills contained in annex D of the National Agreement have changed significantly and no longer reflects the actual keying tasks being performed at MDEC's

In view of the above, Conference agrees that the Postal Executive is instructed to negotiate an agreement with Royal Mail to Review the current Grading. Should any subsequent evaluation identify that the level of skills required to perform their role has increased, the PEC will use this as the basis to seek further improvements in the terms and conditions of MDEC Grades.

Furthermore if significant progress has not been made by October 2007 then the PEC will consider an industrial action ballot of the entire MDEC membership.

I, like many other MDEC members, await the fallout from this conference, but am pleased to see that its at a national level.

I dont expect Royal Mail ever to budge on our terms and conditions what with the increased modernisation of the business and top brass bonus payments to think of, us lot seem to be at the bottom of the heap.

Furthermore, at our last WTL&L, we were asked as keyers how we could make our job simpler and in doing so, make the training of new staff (agency!!) an easier task.

All this leaves me feeling increasingly paranoid and undervalued as a result :(

MDECs at Conference

Post by lovejoy »

The whole CWU conference gave 100% to above motion. It was submitted by the Plymouth and East Cornwall Branch i think and Seconded by Stockport.

Phil Browne of the NEC gave an overview of the national position. YOU must now campaign towards these objectives and if they cannot be achieved by November then YOU must prepare to ballot the MDEC members.

Put up or shut up time!!

it will be a great day when this happens that the mdecs are made to feel like royal mail staff instead of underpaid and overworked monkeys

but i dread to think what will happen if the mdecs are balloted as we dont have enough members, and not enough loyalty within those that are members

i heard of several people last night who had said they had voted for strike action only to be told if there is to be a strike they would still go into work as they cant afford to lose money, so heaven help us if mdecs are balloted as the mindset of these people worry me tremedously, if they cant show any loyalty to the national campaign what hopes have we got :so there

Conference Update
MDEC Members
Dear Members

MDEC MOTION
You will be delighted to know that our branches motion calling for a full revaluation of the MDEC keyers grade was carried unanimously by Conference.

In moving the motion Conference was informed that the role of an MDEC keyer had changed drastically over the last 5 years.

The motion was seconded by the North West Lancs branch (Stockport) and they called for Conference to back the MDEC workers and this call was certainly heeded.

The National Executive will now attempt to renegotiate a full revaluation of the MDEC grade with Royal Mail. As a branch we will as always keep you fully updated with any developments.

YES VOTE
You will all be aware by now that we have achieved a massive YES vote in the national ballot. As a branch we thank everyone who took the time to use their vote.

Despite what management may tell you there will be no knee-jerk reactions. The CWU remain 100% committed to reaching a negotiated settlement. We will now contact the business and offer the fresh talks.

Any developments will be displayed on notice boards and sent out via our email system. To join nearly 800 branch colleagues on this system please email me at chriswebbcwu@yahoo.co.uk (union members only)

Right throughout this dispute Royal Mail campaign hard for a NO vote and remained confident that this would be he outcome. CWU members nationwide have shown them that we will not give in to the tactics that the business is using. We have stood together and delivered a crushing blow to senior management’s plans.

Once again thank you all for your support in this dispute thus far. There will be many more twists and turns to come. What we can promise you is good communications, honesty and that reaching an agreement will remain our priority!

The ball is now firmly in Royal Mail court.

Regards

Key what you see... pfft!

Post by Dyson »

Excellent news!

I for one have been hopeing for this to come about for some time. Im fed up of the "just Key what you see" reply we have always been given when the rules are now so complicated a key what you see senario dosen't exist!

If anyone says the mdec is "just key what you see on the screen" they have no idea of the job we do at the mdec.

Cheers

Dyson.

I have been involved in mech work since 1989, ranging from second generation code desks to the current AI system, the fundamental rule has always been key what you see,it sounds simplistic it is'nt cause b4 you get to that stage there a number of keying rules prior to simply keying what you see.

Getting the motion passed at Conference is a FANTASTIC step in the right direction
It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

The motion being passed is great. However in order to make that reach its logical conclusion we MUST do one thing - stand behind the CWU.

They have our best interests at heart - if we want pay parity then we must tell Royal Mail.

Procrastination should no longer be seen as an option.

Royal Mail has immense power and 99% of the Management is blinded by it.
