Unit Flexibilty and Effiency Plan Phase 3

Anyone know the full implications of this? I'm currently reading up on it, not good at all.

More when time allows.

Apologies for not making myself a little more clearer earlier. Due to being our local cwu rep I have to mediate between staff and management but we're only now discussing the many issues that 'Phase 3' raises. I've read numerous reports concerning the latest national agreement...and basically us posties have been left without a leg to stand on! I was simply hoping for some feedback from offices either implementing or discussing the newest round of changes.

As an office we are in the last week of the farcical 'summer savings' plan (where sixty postmen take part delivery of a round, such chaos!) and something of a relief that it's at an end to be honest. BUT...and a big 'but' at that...phase three now begins and we're back to where we started albeit under a different name.
Basically, under the new agreement management can cover sick absence, release days, special leave...any kind of absence really by distributing the deficit amongst already overworked colleagues. Oh I know it's all dressed up in management speak concerning 'no significant reduction of quality of service' and 'full cwu/dom interaction' blah blah blah but that's the national agreement now and we're ****ed.
How soon will it be routine to deliver fifty houses from another delivery before you begin your own? Why did the CWU even agree to such measures? Not forgetting the stress this will put on people who are off sick...I can only imagine the reception someone would get upon their return, knowing we all had to do extra to cover their absence...and so forth.

It's getting increasingly difficult to form a positive argument against continuous change when our Union Leaders have agreed to sanction such changes in the first place. As an individual office we voted against the summer savings but it was brought by an area decision.
We have now given management full license to basically do as they please. Madness I tell you!

It is madness but it was voted in by the membership under dubious circumstances ie the ballot paper to confuse all with the are we voteing to go on strike or not question!. But it is not just absence but workload on a daily basis this is going to causes big arguement's in the workplace!. It is teamworking and it will not work for postmen do not work as team's never have and never will!.

All we can do is work our contracted hours -no more, no less. Whatever you are told to do, once you have worked your contractual hours, thats it and no-one can make you do more than this.

we have got to realise that the days of us finishing early are gone, so we have to start at the right time and take all our allocated breaks.
we have guys in our office still starting an hour early, running like mainiacs to finish early and then wonder why they are getting asked to do extra work ,you couldnt make it up.

Word for word EXACTLY the same as us lot down 'ere :)
We're cursed by the same selfish individuals (funny how it's always the most senior members). One, who only recently, stormed into the office during a heavy day insisting that he has to be home for his young child every day at a certain time...one and a half hours before he was due to finish! As you said...you couldn't make it up.

You a quite right and no other firm buisness would let staff finish so early! But is it rearly all their fault? NO it is thier's :cfo & :lfo they dangled the carrott of job and finish and we all to willingly follow like donkey's!. If they :cfo & :lfo can get away with treating human being's like this there is no justice in the world to day!. I say put the conspirator's in chief on trial and hang them forthwith.

We have just had phase 3 introduced in the last week, and have had to absorb 3 walks with each postie covering an average of 25 points a day.

The 25 points have been allocated to a specific duty ie walk 1 covers 1-25 Acacia Avenue, being signed for on seniority.

The 3 duties have to be covered all year round and not just in the 16 week summer period.

The easy option would be to blame you know who,but wait a second.
Who voted yes or didn't bother to vote when this was balloted last November?
Who continues to come in 1 hour early every day?
Who cuts their meal relief?
Who uses their car on delivery?
Who has got the 30 pieces of silver?

I have stuck to the rules religiously last week and have not been able to do the extra duties as there is not enough time in the day to complete this, the situation now facing many is that they will be performing unpaid overtime on a regular basis,as they do not want the aggro or do not have the bottle to tell management they are working to rule, and will just quietly put up with the extra lumped on them every day.
The new starters are too scared they will not be given a permanent contract, and will be deliberately put on the worst duties by the screws knowing they will just complete.

The situation is ripe for all manner of abuses to take place now but unfortunately it is ourselves who are to blame as we have allowed this situation to arise in the first place so any whinging will be wasted as it is time for action.

If I have to take the action on my own then so be it,I will go down alone as I am already preparing for the sack, rather than stay out until 6PM every day for a pair of night club bouncers in suits.

I have a question.
How does a postman get to the extra delivery ?
Does he use his own car ? and his own petrol , or by van or walk, or by a taxi .
If postman/women use their own vehicles their probably still finishing early so they will take the extra work, but its only a matter of time until the next round of cuts.
The only reasoning that I can see is let royal mail provide transport, and we all work to our contracted hours.

We're just about to start talks on Phase 3, and the way it seems it will go is - If mail is below a certain level then we will lapse duties, each duty will be split between 8-10 people. But what we all have to do is make sure that people who can't do the extra don't get bullied by management. We've also just signed a agreement whereby no-one can start work more than 10 mins early. We're trying to find a way of banning people taking their cars out on delivery, I think once people start getting sent out to do more if they get back early, then this might make them see that doing the job right, will benifit them in the end. But it's a up hill battle.

At our office we have the time that our meal relief begins and the time we go out on delivery put on the notice board. When these times are reached, we do not do anything else.(unlss they want paid overtime) If we have spare capacity BEFORE this time is reached, the rep got a crew bus for us and those that can do some extra, jump on the crew bus and go out on delivery making sure that they are back for the time on the noticeboard. This way,we still finish on our proper time as we do the extra first and not after our normal delivery. We only do it of course when we have spare time.

In theory (and please dont laugh) the expected low volume of traffic should enable you to have more than enough time to complete the extra delivery. If agreed you can deliver before your normal duty (when conveyed out for example) or choose to do so at the end. There should be some means of conveyance available upon your return to the office...in theory.
