In our office we had one person throwing off 2 walks van share.the other was on arasorting.trolley duties moaning about that .We weren't regular lapsing . trolley duties were completing absorbsion still coming back 40 mins to. 1hr early .so manager increased there lapsing and then manager started to take sorter off throw off there van share walk more complaining from trolley duties and they are still coming back early Basically manager is right to keep trolley duties on sorting longer .These same people are now moaning about all these dm26 changes after rushing around all these years.Most of them know because the have seniority that they have better chance of picking what they want in repick .And i am high up in seniority myself.Also same people who wanted Saturdays to be scrapped.Not thinking of the people low in seniority being moved to another office or being let go. Selfish c__t_.

The work is one thing, the toxic culture another. Morale at my DO is dire, daily arguments and disagreements, awful atmosphere on the IPS in the mornings as people resentful why them not others, constant bad moods, backstabbing, managers seemingly enjoying seeing the fireworks go off.

I am okay for the time being but not sure for how much longer — prob when they do the full repick is when I will take a view of whether to stay or go. Not because I won’t go where I am put, but more a case of probably having to take a duty from a different postcode/area covered by a separate section in our office which I don’t know at all and, if I am frank, really not wanting to. I have a lapsed class 2 licence so am currently looking to renew that and see if I can get a transfer to Distribution or Network…

When i retired my mate and fellow postie, who is only a few months younger than me, managed to get a transfer to distribution.
Wishes he had done it years ago and is much happier at his work even though its nights.
Big plus for him is that they have all moved to a 4 day week and off every other weekend.
Moneys better too, give it a go, lets face it delivery is pretty much on the road to nowhere and until the USO goes or letters disappear its only getting worse.

Are you bringing mail/packets back on a daily basis or are you expected to do ot.Ive never done ot and don’t want to start now and we shouldn’t be expected to either.

I'm transferring as a last ditch thing to see if another office will be any better, failing that, next job offer, gone.

I don't even understand what happened with how we've all ended up with longer days.

We were given 2 options..... longer days or longer days.

30 to 40 minutes extra walking a day + workload too much = walking 40 to 60 minutes extra a day if you choose to stay out.

Utter madness.

Wasn't there a point in time when our union was against later finish times and was concerned about fatigue? they have caved in.

I thought at the last dispute we fought to keep the finishing time to a reasonable time and the union even suggested they were looking into earlier starts/finishes once everything settled down after the air flight was disbanded?

Whilst I like an extra Saturday increasing the delivery span by upto an hour a day is a real killer, to make it even worse our 2pm Saturday finish has now moved to gone 3pm so going to any local football or rugby matches is now a no go.

The midday to 1pm Saturday finishes Martin was going on about in his CWU videos a few months back seem to have disappeared. We are getting more Saturdays off,yeah…but we ain’t half paying for ‘um!

Money is very good,, but unfortunately there is a lot of interest/competition for transfers at the moment and seniority is king. A bloke at our place got a TP to the mail centre last Christmas as an MGV driver and managed to wrangle a permanent job out of it, but think it was more a case of being in the right place at the right time. Everyone I speak to says it’s a completely different atmosphere to Delivery and that it’s like working for a different company. Going to take the liberty of nipping into the mail centre, or trying to, once I have the tacho card and CPC to see if they will give me an assessment drive so I can do some OT shifts there. Either way, at least I will have the licence for whatever eventuality.

You are selling it to me, no two ways about that. Thanks for the inside knowledge :-) My mate said as much about not getting OT as they are really hot on driver hours (which after 20 years are more confusing than I ever remember, esp these digi cards and manual entries, etc - a lot has changed!). Hopefully there are xmas transfers again this year as it would be good to try it out first. Don’t doubt the waistline bit!!

I must have missed that! The memory of what the job was like before P&L kills me more than anything, particularly on Saturdays. Someone remind me what variety of magic beans we got for giving away the shorter attendance.

If Summers in the UK are going to be as hot as they were this summer, then working until 3.30pm or even up to 4.30pm is not going to be fun at all.
