Journalist covering working conditions in the heatwaves

Hello all!

I am a freelance journalist working on a story about the working conditions of various sectors in the heatwave weather.

I thought that it would be important to represent the experiences of postal workers in the piece, as you are of course very much on the frontline in the heat.

I heard some stories of some postal workers getting heatstroke, hospitalised or worse during or after their rounds, and am looking to fact check and document these incidents where appropriate. I had the steer from a local CWU rep that this site might be a good place to look.

If anyone has any stories to share please do get in touch via the thread, or via private message, or I can share my phone number and further details there to have a proper chat. It's totally fine to remain anonymous of course.

My friend is a farmer he works 14 hours a day in all weathers and looks after himself what you will get here is the woe is me crowd that don’t have the wit to slow down and take fluids on board and taking other precautions trying to blame Royal Mail…..we are all told to carry out dynamic risk assessments, including weather and not take any chances

Local agreement meant we were allowed to start earlier and finish earlier. We only went out with tracked items, specials and if we could manage it 1c letters.

Our manager was fantastic and so was our local rep. RM has some major flaws in how it treats us, but from my experience I have no complaints with how everyone at our office was treated.

I got heat stroke in the June heatwave, my duty is outdoors walking from 10 am to 3 pm. I raised concerns with my manager about the heat but they said wear factor 50 sunscreen, I said heat not sunburn and they said drink water. Anyway I felt ill when I finished and went home, It took me 4 days to recover. I told my manager that I thought I had heat stroke and they wrote on their sickness form I had a virus. I said it was heatstroke they said you never went to hospital to get that diagnosed so it was probably a virus. I refused to sign the form for virus, and that was the last I heard of it. Honestly, the delivery times are the middle of the day now and RM expect you to deliver your duty regardless of the weather conditions. It's just asking for people to get ill and eventually someone will die. Royal mail clearly do not care about their workers health so governments needs to step in and create regulations that force bad employers like RM to protect their workers in extreme conditions.

I did use google and found a Daniel Tester that only writes about Palestine and the middle east.
He has only ever written 2 articles about domestic issues in the Bristol area and one national.
I could only assume the person posting here and what I found on google are the same, that's why I asked for confirmation of who he is.

My opinion is he's a University Pro Palestine writer and I just found it strange in the sudden direction away from 99% of his past writing's

yes, I've been working as a professional journalist for the last couple of years for an outlet called Middle East Eye, covering geopolitics in the Middle East and also various ways that spills is over into the UK, where the outlet is based. But I'm now trying to do freelance writing about more domestic issues, which i will submit towards a master's degree I'm taking in invesetigative journalism, as well as trying to get it published in a professional capacity as I've been doing.

"It's hot in RM buildings in our two week Summer" is hardly ground-breaking research.
