LTB 322/08 - Weekend Network Changes

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

No. 322/08

Ref: L14.10

Date: 25th April 2008

To: Branches with POSTAL Members
For immediate circulation to all appropriate Area/Unit Representatives
Postal Divisional Representatives

Dear Colleague

Weekend Network Changes

Branches/Representatives will be aware that the business have been reviewing the Weekend Network Operation with a view to implement changes in June/July of this year.

Although at National Level we received an initial Presentation in February to advise us of the Review we were given an assurance that a further meeting would be scheduled to present the proposed changes that were to be implemented prior to local discussions being initiated so that deployment plans and the timeline etc could be agreed. We were told that this meeting would be held in March once Mail Centres had informed the Network Planning Managers of the service requirements.

Despite numerous requests for this Joint Meeting to be arranged to receive the proposals and discuss how these changes will be progressed to date the business have failed to respond. It appears however from recent enquiries received from Branches local discussions are already being instigated. Clearly this is unacceptable and we have now told the business that until we have received their proposals at National Level as previously agreed we will be issuing the following instruction:

Branches should not participate or progress any discussions at Local Level regarding proposed Weekend Network changes until advised by CWU Headquarters.

We trust all Representatives will follow the above instruction and where necessary make full use of the terms of the IR Framework.

Any enquiries regarding this LTB should be directed to the appropriate National Officer responsible Terry Pullinger (Network) or Martin Collins (Area Distribution).

Yours sincerely

Am w/e rep and these threats have been used now for two years. The "business plan" from those talented people has said this for the last year. It now seems that they intend to act on it but they have given no details, or should i say our cwu management have given the reps no detail of what that represents. Again the locals behind the black ball while those in charge lead a life of excess lack of worry. Dave and Billy et al when was the last time you lived on a couple of hundred a week. Until your wages represent the average of what we earn I will always distrust you.....up til now I havnt beeen wrong. Billy wheres the investigation, a letter does not suffice.

What's Weekend Network as far as a little delivery office is concerned? I didn't realise Network was broken down like that.

Any changes to the Weekend Network will have implications for the Distribution Centres dotted around the country (what used to be known as Royal Mail Streamline), of which there are now a lot fewer than when I first joined RM. These centres run a network of lorries over the weekend to distibute the stamped traffic and bulk business postings which have been collected on Saturday (no Sunday collections any more).

It's been a rumour for some weeks now that all the work will be put into yorks (as opposed to cages) and that NHCDC in Hatfield will lose this work to PRDC (Willesden, London), due to lack of floor space at NHCDC for this kind of cross-docking operation. Managers have refused to confirm or deny whether this is the case , but the LTB at the start of this thread tallies with the start date of early July that the rumours suggested
