I have been signed off work for 3 weeks damaged nerves in my back.Got a letter telling me to go and see the boss for an interview. So went down and see him. He asked me to go back on light duties.To which i told him that i could not do things like sort mail as repetitive movement of my arms hurts my back. He said that i would be working in the callers office.Also advised him that my back gets that sore that i need to lye down to help it. so i did not want to come back to early as didnt want another absence. So was told that i would be coming back on a 2 hour day and building up as the days passed. Which i was happy with. anyway i went to work this morning and was told 1st thing to help a guy prep my walk which i did even though i knew would not help.Then he asked me to go into his office and he asked me read out a piece of paper saying that i would be working from 7am-12.30 the 5 days this week.Which was against what i was told about.Also on another sheet of paper asked me to sign saying i would be willing to do my delivery next week. I said to him i hoped to do it but could not guarantee it. So he said sign it and add comments i just put what had told him. I then asked our new union guy about the situation and he wasnt sure what to do as he is very new to the job.Anyway he spoke to the boss and the boss said i had signed saying i would work the 5 and half hours.Im just looking at advice as thats me home and my back is killing me. I dont want to have to go to doctors and sign off again.

If the rep is a bit green, try calling the independent H.E.L.P. orhanisation on 0800 688 8777 - they're pretty good. Your managers actions are not based on the full knowledge of your medical condition and unless he's a trained GP, mean nothing but it could be used against you so seek advice quickly.

What I don't understand is why you signed it.

I thought i was just signing to say i was willing to do my delivery at the end of next week.Which i do hope to do if im better.No where did it say i was signing to say i was happy with the hours. Thanks for the number will try them.

If your local rep can't help then get in touch with the area rep. Your local rep should know how to get in touch with him/her or the branch. I think you need to do this ASAP because signing things you're not sure of saying you'll go back to work when your still recovering is definitely not in you're interests. Let us know how you get on.

it was rehab i started back on today.As have said it was all planned out what i was doing.Then the boss changed it all at last minute.

had abit of pain before going to work. Then got there and was sorting mail. then picked up a stub of mail and it started from then.

If your back is sore because you where given the wrong work to do then go sick again, put it in writing the reason for absence is this lack of care from your manager..

I was advised not to make that mistake. I got mine agreed in writing, and even helped them and they have stuck by it 100%.

thanks for the replies. Have beent o my own doctor again today see his advice and he told me he didnt want to get into an arguement with Royal mail.He advised to me to go to OHS. So have asked my boss to arrange this for me.Will also call the local union offical as well see if he can help.

Well I would be considering changing my Dr - he should be worried about your health not Royal Mail.

He second job isn't for ATOS, is it???

I have already been considering this.Not becuase of this had a few problems with him.
