HTF do RM get away with this BS to the BBC
From the BBC site
Royal Mail told the BBC it only prioritised parcels when it was necessary to do so in order to clear bulky items from sorting offices for health and safety reasons. It said it was normal for people to receive a number of items at the same time, creating a perception of so-called "batching".

We all know the mail centre machines don’t release mail unless there’s a 1st class item so while a delivery office may be clear (unlikely) mail is still being wilfully delayed (gross misconduct btw)

That is the service the customer is paying for.
It isn't wilful delay and it isn't gross misconduct.

OK, so that implies the converse theoretically happens: that some days packet volumes are low enough or the dimensions of the packets are diminutive enough that you are instructed to leave them and focus on clearing the duty. Were that true I think we'd be hearing sustained complaints about 'not attempted' scans, for I suspect there are no scenarios in which Tracked® would ever be allowed to voluntarily linger in the office.
The machine stops.

Its times like this when the CWU could do with something like a Comms department.

Because the BBC won't actually check if that's true.

Then perhaps this needs communicated to the customer. 2nd class needs to go every other day, if it’s being held it’s being done so wilfully. We all know mail centres will do what they want and delivery will pick up the pieces and quality of service complaintsclashcityrocker wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026, 16:31Delivery to specification.heraldmoth wrote: ↑20 Feb 2026, 16:27We all know the mail centre machines don’t release mail unless there’s a 1st class item so while a delivery office may be clear (unlikely) mail is still being wilfully delayed (gross misconduct btw)

Royal Mail employ some top end P.R.company to spout out any rubbish to the media and the public and until the union do likewise to counter there nonsense then they will continue to do so

Delivery to specification mail isn't second class mail.heraldmoth wrote: ↑21 Feb 2026, 09:402nd class needs to go every other day, if it’s being held it’s being done so wilfully.
The customer pays to have it delivered when that address has another piece of mail.
The machines don't release it.
Maybe this needs to be communicated to some posties?

Don't know if it was legit but saw a DSA letter with a 1 next to the DSA logo. Don't know if there's a 1st class DSA service been started that no one has told us about.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑21 Feb 2026, 18:29Delivery to specification mail isn't second class mail.heraldmoth wrote: ↑21 Feb 2026, 09:402nd class needs to go every other day, if it’s being held it’s being done so wilfully.

Not sure about that, every article has the exact same bog standard handful of excuses word for word, which have been used for years now

But the BBC etc just print it without ever quiering it as if they accept it's a plausible explanation, the reason why RM has staff shortages and recruitment issues is that few potential employees want to work as a postie for just about the MW and benefit allowances.

I don’t see the issue. It’s their company and they can prioritise what they want? If anyone here owned the company, they would be doing the exact same thing, focusing on products that make the company money.

Neither do I.
We prioritise Special Deliveries. We prioritise collections and customer collections.
Nobody ever mentions them.
