Nothing because CPI inflation has hit 3.4%, the agreement only covered between 2 - 3%, with a clause to reopen negotiations above 3%.

The company have threatened to abandon the pay deal if ODM is not brought in also.

3.4% was the December figure, January hasn’t been released yet , but is expected to drop below 3%. Remember, the pay rise is dictated by the average figure over January, February and March. If it drops below 2% or rises above 3%, negotiations reopen.
I expect the ODM to be pushed through by executive action, so we should see a pay rise.

The central bank published short-term forecasts with its Monetary Policy Report in November 2025. They forecast inflation would come in at 3% in January, 3.1% in February, and 3.2% in March.

If they get the forecast more or less correct then the average will be over 3%?

Inflation will be at 3.4%, negotiations take place, in that time it drops to 1.8% - union agree to a "no strings inflation matching pay rise" of 1.8%

It will be a 2% ‘inflation busting’ pay rise because inflation is at 1.8% in April after riding high for a whole year.

We'll know what inflation actually was for January on 18th Feb.

If we're lucky it will be exactly 3%.

That would make the average for Jan & Feb 3.2% meaning March would have to come in well below 3% to make the pay rise valid, you have to fear we're going to have another long wait before we get this year's pay rise, not sure if it also means 2027 pay rise would also have to be renegotiated?
