1pm special delivery question
Hi everybody. I am new to the forums. I been lurking for a while.
I am from Liverpool office. But wont say which office.
I had a baby recently. So forgive any silly questions.
So me and work colleague where having a discussion the other day about 1pm special delivery’s.
My work colleague said he’s been delivering 1pm special delivery’s after 1pm. And he has never been pulled up for it. And the bit which shocked me has he also didn’t do the “Inaccessible scan” or “No answer scan” which usually breaks the 1pm system.
So my question is
If you deliver the 1pm special delivery’s after 1pm (without any scans mentioned above)
Does the complaint trigger/flag up automatically or does the customer have to complain ???

Re: 1pm special delivery question
It should trigger automatically, your manager must be ignoring it or is it possible your colleague is not being quite truthful, it should also show in the my progress section on the PDA, it's in the part where it tells you how many trackeds you've delivered over the previous week.
The exception to this is on Saturdays a regular SD (as opposed to a Saturday guaranteed which has a higher price) can be delivered after 1pm as they're only guaranteed before 1pm the following Monday.

Royal Mail seriously needs to alter the time from 1pm to 2pm.
That extra hour would massively help out especially on rural duties.

Agreed. The hour would be really helpful. We usually just adjust the order of the loops but sometimes it's impossible to not have to break off just to do a special.Walter sobchak wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026, 13:21Royal Mail seriously needs to alter the time from 1pm to 2pm.

Re: 1pm special delivery question
I’d go further and make it a guaranteed next day delivery, with no time limit. Almost like T24, the difference being that T24 isn’t a guaranteed next day delivery service, just an aim.Walter sobchak wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026, 13:21Royal Mail seriously needs to alter the time from 1pm to 2pm.

Re: 1pm special delivery question
The next day when the manager plugs into Mother, she informs them of unscanned Tracked items and 1pm Specials scanned after time.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

Re: 1pm special delivery question
The 1pm deadline is a relic from when delivery rounds would be finished by 1pm most days. Now if you don’t start delivery til gone 10 there is no chance.

Re: 1pm special delivery question
Is the 1pm deadline an OFCOM enforced USO requirement, or are Royal Mail free to vary the time without any outside approval?

Re: 1pm special delivery question
Unfortunately at the moment that's only an option for companies/businesses with RM contracts, you can't get SD without the 1pm specification at PO's at the moment. It's a money spinner for both RM and the PO.SMS1969 wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026, 14:37I’d go further and make it a guaranteed next day delivery, with no time limit. Re: 1pm special delivery question
Depends if the manager is watching the 'stats'. You'd be able to see the non-compliance on your own PDA the next day. However that data (well last time I checked) also shows non-1pm SD and non-Saturday Guaranteed SD's delivered after 1pm as failures. I think a lot of managers don't care until a customer complaint comes in.Sarah99 wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026, 12:55Hi everybody. I am new to the forums. I been lurking for a while.

Username Sarah99, baby recently, works in a Liverpool office. It’ll take Columbo to crack this one.

I know, it just needs a guaranteed next day on all.TooManyLoops wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026, 17:41Already available, mainly larger retailers though, needs rolling out moreSMS1969 wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026, 14:37I’d go further and make it a guaranteed next day delivery, with no time limit.
