2026 & beyond

Post by Walter sobchak »

Off this coming week but when I return to work in the new year I will be completely changing my attitude to and my daily input/output to my daily shift.

No more coming in 15 minutes early to throw my 1st tray in or d2d’s etc.

No more rushing round out on delivery in order to complete the round.

No more working through my mail relief.

No more working past my finishing time.

From now on I will only be taking out half of my round(mail) or less depending on the volume and bringing back what I can’t deliver after prioritizing the specials and tracked items.

And before people ask and moan why I did the above before now changing I’ve been in the job 26 years and on the same rural duty for over 10 years and built up a rapport with the customers especially the older/retired on my round and felt obliged to try and give them their important letters i.e. NHS, bank and other important letters etc every day.

In short my body is f#cked(bad back) and I’m sick of getting home 1-2 hours after my time and being knackered for the remainder of the day.

Walter - can totally understand what you've done in the past and why you've made the decisions above. It's especially galling that managers don't acknowledge efforts that are made and with SISO f**king up OT payments continually now why bother?

I’ve become very cynical when it’s comes to OT payments being wrong and wouldn’t be surprised if it was being done deliberately in order to save money every week as it happens to at least 3-4 people every week.

They seem to rotate it in our office every week to who they literally shortchange.

Siso regiment's the staff in other words it forces the goodwill out and only really allows strict overtime in turn forcing people to really think "right I'm definitely going to finish on time, next year we will truly see how fxxxxd RM has become.

Happened to us last year, manager was blatantly shortchanging people and overpaying his usual guys. A different manager came to me and pretty much admitted/apologised saying it gets vetoed above them

No disrespect to Walter, but the above post boils my piss :coolr this is the exact reason we have unmanageable workloads, I can guarantee poor Walter will drop into his old ways within a day or two

I have nothing to do with why we have unmanageable workloads as the guy next to me does what I intend to do in the new year.

i.e. it’s down to choice.

No such thing as a “quiet period” mate.

There’s busy and then there’s Xmas levels of busy.

Like I stated before I felt obliged to help out and get the mail out to the people on my round who I’ve known for 10+ years and especially the older people who make up a good portion of my round.

Sadly once you've gone, takes around three days, it will be Walter who?

Could I ask if Walter stood or attended the picket lines on any of the 18 days of the strike?

Absolutely, froze my bollocks off one day along with 1 other guy.

Think I didn’t attend 1 or maybe 2 days. Why you ask mate??

True but as long as I’m on my duty I’ll try and help out those people the best I can and again especially the older ones who depend on their mail or just want a crack for a minute or two as I’ll probably be the only person they’ll talk to that day.
