2nd class stamp "possible reason"

Post by centenaryman »

Has anybody seen the post on robin from a senior person at the north west hub in answer to why 2nd class stamps....
Not as you would think....there's too many managerial ppl so they can't afford 1st....or they have to pay massive amount to all the ppl who signed the cards.....NOPE...

He thinks it's to take pressure of delivery at Christmas.

What a cloud cuckoo world them higher up live in.

By posting 2nd class they will get shoved to the back out the way....untraceable soooooo they can be delivered in January....

Untraceable? Nope, they'll be able to track them from the barcodes on the stamps. The 2C will be mixed in with the 1C when it comes to the mech.

The difference between 1C and 2C is built in to when they are dispatched from the outward MC to the inward MC, so do they plan on failing all 2C letters and flats and letting a backlog build up?

When I say untraceable.....I post a tracked....I can see when and we're it is....
I post a letter with a stamp and barcode there is no way I know we're it is when it's delivered
So I know it will be pushed back....hence the delivery in January...

I'm sure we've talked about this before, I don't get how that fits in with the odm plans of rolling over 2nd class in delivery offices on the 1st class only days

The reason is it's less cost to the business. The value of issuing 2nd class stamps is approximately £4 million less.

The stamps we've been given have less spending power, and therefore people will make up the difference themselves.

You might say well if I'm only posting Christmas cards there is no real difference, just takes longer to receive.

But stamps can be used for sending parcels/special deliveries etc. This is where the difference in value really counts. And RM simply don't want to lose that revenue because they have no respect for the staff any more and profit is everything.

Could be a few reasons. Even though RM prints its own stamps, they still carry a value and a cost on the balance sheet when issued internally. Given how tight EP group are on cash flow it might be a financial decision. 1st class mail has delivery targets and by issuing 2c they won't be adding to the 1c failure rates in December as they are now under greater scrutiny by Ofcom.

For me, what is meant to be a goodwill gesture at Xmas just reminds everyone how little value they put on their own staff.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Personally I feel the OP is correct now that 1c are treated as priority then as far as senior management are concerned the less to deliver the better. If it's just a costs issue why didn't they do that during the industrial action or last festive season?

However if you put 2 second class stamps on an envelope it becomes a first class letter.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's hard enough trying to find first class when "you're on your own today". Probably in most cases staff would just see 2c stamp.and leave it in.

I timed myself the other day: took 20 minutes to pick through a rammed frame. Could I have left the 1C out of the frame on the very rational assumption it wouldn't be going out, thus saving myself and by extension the company a third of an hour? You bet.

I'll take any stamped 2C as well, purely because in our case it helps fill the gaps doing the 1C and small Tracked on foot. The duty is compact enough to make it workable: one bag fully packed with 20-25 packets, one bundle (all 1C, 2C stamped, coincidentals), and one hour that's all we have left after clearing the first side.
The machine stops.

It simply sends a statement " We don't give a fck about you".

Quite frankly I don't give a fck about the company or most of the customers for the last 5+ years.
