Anyone else feel “burnt out”?

Post by nightcrawler »

Maybe it’s because I’m in my mid 50s and have been doing the job for over 30 years, but I regularly get home now and just feel knackered. Even if I get a good nights sleep, I’ll still get in from work and often feel so tired.

Definitely. The 6 hour deliveries aren’t helping. Can you go off sick with fatigue?..

Come back from a week off to lay eyes on a mess. Clear three days on side 1, clear four days on side 2, day off, clear two days on side 1, clear three days on side 2, clear two days on side 1. Finally on top of it... get moved to another duty that hasn't shifted in a week.

Wish I was off again. So, yes!
The machine stops.

What are you achieving by clearing so much old post you still get the same rate of pay as somebody just clearing 1 days post?

I did have aches and pains for the first 2 years I worked for Royal Mail that I almost quit because of it. I don't know why it took so long for the leg pain to dissipate.

So, I am actually ok in that regard. I don't think I'll be choosing to do this job in my 50s unless it's just a few days a week.

Even though my single duty normally takes less than 4 hours to deliver, I still feel knackered by 7 in the evening. Being mid fifties doesn’t help I guess, but I’m relatively fit for my age. Been on leave for nearly two weeks and my back ache has gone-soon to return no doubt. Ah well roll on ‘peak’ lol.

I'm 30s and knackered. I look at some older folks in my office and wonder how they do it. So fair play to you if you're that age.

My weakness is a lack of sleep, I'm not one of those that can go to bed at 9pm.

Yep, I'm mid 60's, been here bout 16mths, it's taking its toll now, I get home worn out, come the evening I find myself nodding off, and I just don't wanna get out of bed in the morn,, my body still aching from the day before, I wasn't like this in my previous job.. Time for me to look elsewhere for my body's and sometimes my mental sake!

I’m finding it easier now as there’s no expectation that your going to clear a delivery.

Have you considered going to the doctors and asking for a blood test just to check everything is OK? :hmmmm

I do feel for the real older posties in our office, I see them hobbling around, coming in early without pay to chuck all their D2D's in, staying out in all weathers everyday to clear their frames, most will die on the job or very quickly after they are forced to retire, I did once raise this concern about one postie and was told "THEY ARE VERY PROUD MEN,VERY PROUD MEN"
