Locked up depot -duty of care from RM managers
Could you please advise? Is it ok to expect a postie to stay out delivering on a Sunday till.6pm when the Manager finishes at 4pm. If this becomes a regular expectation surely the Manager needs to also stay later? Is it acceptable for them to tell us to take the PDA home and make sure van is locked on the street or take it home. Also from a duty of care angle what if something awful happened...how would they know?

No one has to work past their finish time. Lone working should be risk assessed. The SOP states no mail can be left in vehicles overnight. PDA's go back in the charging cabinet so they can charge and be updated. What the CWU doing about it?Tiggy76 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2025, 16:10Could you please advise? That's just what I thought about parcels being left in van/PDAs etc. Thank you.

Finished my compulsory Sunday shift earlier at a diff office, ours is closed Sundays, took the van back to my local depot with all the undelivered parcels locked in the van till Monday, took the keys and PDA back home with me, all the Sunday drivers do this every week, some take the van home..

They literally leave you to do everything. So you must all have a key to the gates and buildings and have to reset alarms etc. This seems way beyond the responsibility of what a postie should be doing. Surely this isn't right?

I'm amazed that this is ok and normal working practise. Like someone wrote earlier...if those parcels go missing it's our necks on line.fadetogrey63 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2025, 18:42Finished my compulsory Sunday shift earlier at a diff office, ours is closed Sundays, took the van back to my local depot with all the undelivered parcels locked in the van till Monday, took the keys and PDA back home with me, all the Sunday drivers do this every week, some take the van home..
What is the Union stance on this? Has it been questioned in your office?

It looks like others are having the same concerns and that having parcels in vans overnight is commonplace. It's terrible!tramssirhc wrote: ↑10 Aug 2025, 18:15No one has to work past their finish time. Lone working should be risk assessed. The SOP states no mail can be left in vehicles overnight. It's what happens because the CWU doesn't care about any worker who works Sundays.Tiggy76 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2025, 19:22It looks like others are having the same concerns and that having parcels in vans overnight is commonplace.
