Coventry Northampton Milton Keynes To Merge

In Milton Keynes yesterday, we were all told that we are shutting our mail centre in the next couple of years and merging with Northampton and Coventry in a as yet undisclosed location (probably a M1 junction at Northampton).
The reason we were told is that all three mail centre`s are old and not suitable for the new technology that they want to invest in, in the next few years.
Have you been told anything in Northampton or Coventry?

Moved to Mail Centre Forum as more likely to get seem by MC staff there.

Has the news been made public yet as the local politicians always seem to love this type of story.

Sorting office 'could close down'

A union has said it thinks Royal Mail may close a sorting office and move its work to a site serving three counties.

There have already been proposals to have a combined site for Coventry, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire near to junction 15 of the M1, it said.

The Communication Workers Union now thinks the future of a site in Milton Keynes is being looked at and some work could go to the combined site.

Royal Mail said there were "no current plans" to shut the Milton Keynes site.

It said: "Our preferred location for the new combined Coventry and Northampton Mail Centre remains between junctions 15 and 16 of the M1 in Northamptonshire for strategic, operational and commercial reasons.

"There are no current plans to close Milton Keynes Mail Centre.

"However we are always reviewing our network to ensure optimum efficiency and best service.

"Any reviews affecting Milton Keynes will be shared with our people first."

When they say "there are no current plans..." it really means that there is nothing on paper as of this moment. The fact is that MKMC management are pushing for inclusion into plans for the new superMC (between junction 15/16 M1) as a least worst option. What the other options are hasn't been made plain, but as far as MK staff are concerned it is the culmination and confirmation of years of rumours regarding the mail centre there.
