Royal Mail Attendance Procedure - I know this has been replaced or updated a few times. But now I don't know where we stand.
Is there a definitive attendance agreement including pay and standards? And if not, can the union see to it - maybe just put a pdf together with all current relevant documents and make it available on the CWU Website to its members please? And I suggest giving such a pdf versioning numbers and dates - so it can be updated each time something changes.
I did look on the CWU main site and there is no longer a page with RM agreements that we used to have. I tried the members portal - but thats just full of junk advertising..

Anyone in the process can ask for the procedure and should really be issued it as it explains what should happen to help them during the process.tyl wrote: ↑09 Jun 2025, 17:21Royal Mail Attendance Procedure - I know this has been replaced or updated a few times. But now I don't know where we stand.

I'm asking about the union providing members with negotiated agreements buddy. It's bread and butter stuff.

Thanks Oscar, that was actually helpful. For those looking for same, it in the "RMG People Policy, plus key documents" tile, then "Performance, Attendance and Behaviour" in RM's app.Oscar_Grouch wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025, 17:40The sickness policy (and a number of others) is available to download in a fully searchable PDF on the People app

I still cant believe that the union doesnt make it available anymore. We know RM makes unilateral changes to policy and standards from time to time.
It would be a good idea for CWU to again provide the agreed versions to its members. I know there are senior CWU guys hangin around in here, maybe pass this on to HQ, Im sure they cant be aware that the agreements pages have been removed.

The problem is IMHO that the majority of the contents of the agreements are too out of date to be published in their entirety.
Laws have changed and the business has changed.
Certainly some bits are still relevant, but I don't think any of us would be happy if we were still on the agreed pay rate stated in the Way Forward of £242 PW. Throw that in to the Bank of England inflation calculator to work out today's equivalent, and it's about £45 less than our basic now.
Ultimately we are employees of the business and are contractually bound by policies of the day. Whether the CWU top table has a written agreement with them or not, although it would be a much nicer place to work if everything was always easy to come to civilised agreement on.
For now we just have to rely on the CWU representatives to help us hold management of all levels to account when they breach the published business standards and policies.

That is an insanely disingenuous and quite frankly bullshit statement. We got paid 40hr per week for working 30hr and finished by 11/11.30am every day. 9am on a Saturday.Oscar_Grouch wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025, 20:00Laws have changed and the business has changed.tyl wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025, 21:31Thanks Oscar, that was actually helpful. Ok. Let me ask how many people in the business are still around from that time though?SkiSunday wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025, 20:45That is an insanely disingenuous and quite frankly bullshit statement. In my office it's less than 25 with another 25%% having less than 5 years under their belts.
You're rebuttal feels like it's missing the phrase "what you need to remember is..."
And people can't and mustn't be expected to remember a reality that has never been theirs and doesn't have much in the way of relevance today.
My point is, while some of the general principles are still handy and nice to be able to refer to in the year 2525 the still useful are bogged down by the specifics of another time which are not of use to us today.
In fact your response makes my point. You latched on to an ultimately irrelevant specific detail which was used simply to emphasise a wider point and made that the be all and end all of what I said.
Which is the danger of people getting hold of historic documents and treating them as though they were created as some sort of gospel carved in stone. Sure some bits are still good, but even the hallowed US constitution allows for amendments and changes to interpretation based on the realities of the present day.
Now then. If the CWU had the will to create updated versions, redacting all the now out of date stuff or highlighting that these parts have since been superseded by laws or new agreements and business policies
and then emphasising the few bits that are still holding some relevance. That would be a document worth keeping easily available for all and sundry to have access too.
