Early Shift Allowance

I have just read in the agreement that those not in receipt of the Early Shift Allowance since April 07 will lose it.

We were told by the union that if you've got it then you'll keep it but it now appears this is not the case.

This will cost those affected thousands in one sentence and not only have we been sold out but lied to as well.

1.3 Early shift allowances in delivery retained as grandfather rights (for those in receipt since April 2007), including those in receipt of equivalent MTSF payments for changes made since May 2005. We will agree how this money, and equivalent MTSF payments for early shifts, may be used going forward as part of the pay restructuring process in Joint Working Group 2 – if no satisfactory solution is found then grandfather rights will be retained. The early shift payment is ceased in delivery on agreement to pay restructuring.

If I have read this right then we all loose the ESA only if there is an agreement on pay restructuring. Which means that even those who got MTSF payments from May 2005 to April 2007 will still receive the allowance.

When SDD came in my early shift allowance was only protected for 3 years. Even though I complained that I would still end up losing this allowance after the 3 years no one really cared (except me). As the SDD came in, in 2004, guess what I still won't get it back, but who cares I'm only an AG. Now if I was receiving a driving allowance but wasn't actually driving or had spent half an hour as a PHG or something, then I'm sure the Union would have been on my side. Oh dear, it seems the yes voters got me last time as well.

I've lost half of my early shift allowance as I work one week earlies, one week lates, my colleague who does the same job still has there full early shift allowance every week. I'm having to repay the overpayment on it aswell

If one starts at 5.30am each morning every morning of every week i think they deserve more than the £12 we get!

forgive me for my ignorrance but i am not talking about an agreement with royal mail on early shift allowance, what i refer to is a government ruling that anyone working before the hours of 06.00am and after 10.00pm should be paid an allowance from their employer for doing so,have the goalposts been moved so that royal mail can abstain from this?

Basically many of us got screwed when SDD came in and we lost our shift allowance. No-one batted an eyelid.
Will be funny when RM use the grandfather rights money to fund a pay rise some time in the future.
