Geo Route reviews

Hi All,

We are currently going through a Geo Route review. Quite frankly its a load of tosh, trying to take out loads of rounds.

I just wondered if anyone else had any stories or experiences of these reviews??

A management savings tool disguised as a round equaliser-- that about sums it up!!
This is gearing up for loss of duties as we know it and bag carriers to come in, especially when work is also sequenced.

cost cutting exercise, why we are doing it? i don't know, as it's been mentioned before there is no national agreement on it, so why implement it?

Yes georoute can be corrupted (and will be).Walk speed set to a too high speed, too high call rate, not taking into account of the postman slowing down as the delivery goes on, opening and closing gates and writing slips out for packets.

Quite frankly if you are in a trial office or one full of newbies you will no doubt be shafted.It is there just to cut hours.Simple as.Question EVERYTHING before it comes in and stick together.And get a rep who will vouch for the office.

Have had experience of an office a while ago which was massively overstretched anyway and office still lost duties and saved hours.Plus adding about 15/20 mins to most walks (except the people who spoke up).

So in a nutshell, its over to you.

Ask to see how they have verified the mapping, how has the call rate been calculated, what is the terrain and is the walk speed reflective, have they allowed the appropraite attendance times for packets/specials/rec del , what about toilet breaks, are they on the delivery or should time be added for travelling to and from, what tools are they going to provide to get the weight off the shoulder,

oh yes and forgot to add that to my original info.no extra pouch drops/boxes allocated to accomodate the new routes.

Have been working on Pegasus for nearly a year now. Dont think there is a building i havent checked 4 or 5 times. (got to make sure havent we)
Terrain should be agreed with your Rep. Make sure it is. RM love a bit of flat ground even when it is a hill. Check every Buildings is classifield Properly. Complex/Skyscraper/Conversion/Tennement . We had every delivery officer in one at a time and went throug their Walk log to make sure. Make sure you dont put any un official bag drop locations in. More time is given on every walk to walk back to a secure Drop. At a recent H&S meeting the subject of Toliets was brought up. RM tried to skip round this by saying that if you dont have toilets on your walk why try to introduce them now. Alright for them sitting in an office.
They run the system this week to give us an idea and it took out 36 walks. Told our planner to :cfo and come back when hes on this planet.

Wow your office must be huge we are a DO with approx 280 walks at the start and Gio-route took out 13. We now have 8 back and 1 more to come in. Kind of proves it does not work unless done properly. Biggest trouble seems to be that Royal Mail don't see Gio-route as a tool to equalise or make walks more efficient, they see is as a "savings tool" a bit like a supermarket offer of buy one and get 13 free (cut). Reminiscent of ASDA perhaps.

high call rate is ok......you mean lower call rate. Low call rate + fastest walk speed = bigger rounds.

True Blue we only have just over 60 walks. So you could just imagine what we felt like when he said 36.

Either you have ridiculously easy walks or a ridiculously stupid manager. Guess which one I think :lfo :cfo

That's quite a balls up, Misssorts!

In a nearby office, they've just run Pegasus and it's come out with some great results - some walks have 150 calls, some have 700.. on one street, there's 3 postmen, one walking on each side and the other zig-zagging at one end... brilliant stuff. Roll on 2009 when we have ours

At my DO the divide between 2 duties means that 2 posties walk down the same garden path - one goes right and one goes left -

we have a section of street where 3 posties walk through delivering and as a cut through, told the manager about it, still waiting months later! for him to sort it

bit funny though when the other 2 are asked "have you got my mail?" ha ha!
it's the end of my round so always late and they are at the start, have had a few people put there two P in, just give them the office number and the managers name and say "you tell him cause i have months ago"

One thing i forgot to mention. Our planner told us we only have one packet for every eight houses. So after i got up off the flloor and was able to stop laughing i asked him if he fancied taking my walk out for a day. You've gussed right. I had to do it on my own. One of our walks has 26 Blocks of flats all with Door Entry Systems and he couldnt understand our argument that this walk needs an extra hour on it to try and get into the blocks. Where is Geo Route calculations on this.
