At Heathrow, if you're on the airfield side, you can be fined for not having your high-visibility vest zipped up. If speed humps have been installed to slow down vehicles, it makes sense to penalize drivers who intentionally avoid them.

In my district, there are six speed humps and chicanes along a two-mile stretch of the main road. These were put in place because drivers were disregarding the speed limit and ignoring school zone signs. A lollipop lady was even knocked over a few years ago.

You have missed the point entirely. Speed humps on RM premises have nothing to do with 2 mile stretches of public roads.

You have missed the point entirely. Speed humps on RM premises have nothing to do with 2 mile stretches of public roads.

You seem to have missed the main point. Speed bumps, regardless of their location, address either a real or perceived problem. If speeding is the issue, their presence—whether on private or public land—should encourage drivers to slow down, especially if they have previously ignored speed limits in the area.

While speed bumps can be inconvenient and frustrating, they can also save lives. For instance, a pedestrian hit by a car traveling at 10-20 mph is at a much lower risk of serious injury compared to being struck by a vehicle going 20-30 mph. Inconvenience is temporary, but the consequences of not having speed bumps to slow speeding drivers down can be fatal.

We don't have those at our mail centre. Obviously, either (a) our lives are worth less, (b) somebody got a good deal on speed bumps up in the Midlands, or (c) both.

I work at MSH, and my team are delighted that the speed humps have been fitted! Deservedly so. Too many drivers, both Royal Mail, agency, contractors etc are driving way above the 10mph speed limit. Some are driving 30/40mph!

And yes some (other MCs) are currently swerving to avoid them driving on designated walking paths. So yes we keep a look out for them. Easy to get duty number and report them. Even our own MSH drivers and shunters guilty of it, but not any more.

Managers have plenty of opportunities to have a word with speedy drivers but they rarely venture into yard. Used to see them out with speed gun but not for a long time.
Methinks the shunters should take every opportunity to avoid the humps. A lap of the yard encounters around 18 humps, more if parking trailer in 3/400 bays. If they do 3 trailers an hour for a basic shift they’ll be going over humps at least 400 times, and the tugs don’t have suspension !
