SW London PEC Recommendations

Got my ballot paper today along with this from my branch.I Will have a good read through the candidates details and election addresses and see what they all have to say.

I remember martin walsh standing up a conference last year saying slates would be stopped due to the effect they cause on the CWU and members alike this clearly isnt the case and just goes to demonstrate why nobody votes the PEC elections are a complete farce 16% turnout last year and i bet it willbe lower this time around

I wouldn't for one moment doubt what you say BUT isn't it our own fault that there isn't a bigger response. The thing is we see so many times posted on here "we are the union" and yet take no active part whatsoever except to vote now and again and complain when we feel that the leadership and the PEC apparently go against our wishes. Having said that is it because the general membership feel that the whole system is flawed and although we pay subs week in and week out we don't, in the main, truly feel a part of the CWU? I certainly feel disenfranchised from the the union because I believe it is too political and that rather than promoting "my" interests they polish their political egos and interests at my expense.

I agree with you dvbuk the union is tearing itself apart at the highest level north south divides etc i accept these may not be amongst front line members but there is no point pretending they do not exsist at HQ. I am no longer a member of the union i now work elsewhere however during my time in the CWU i was lucky enough to hold a variety of different positions which allowed me to see what really goes on and i was truely dissapointed at what i saw.

no wonder the membership doesnt want to know and to be honest i dont blame them.

geography over policy? it can't be that simple, can it?

No! It is much more complex than that. The union is being run as a business to perpetuate itself in much the same way as Tesco - taking on more and more members in diverse roles and some in competition with us - they believe they are equipped to multi-task when in reality they have difficulty walking and talking at the same time - and on occasion as a singularity.

well. i'm just going to stick a compass in a map with the sharp end in my town.
then I'm going to draw a "sphere of influence" on it to decide who gets my vote.

if it's good enough for S.W London ect....
