Manager told me 2day that our long and shorts are due to start next week, be interesting how it goes not sure about it. Most of our Saturdays are really busy

It's working brilliantly in our office.....long day today, finished at 13:15, short day yesterday, finished at 14:00!

From tomorrow-Tuesdays will be a 1.15pm finish.extra 10 mins per day added for the rest of the week 1.55pm finish.

RM are so desperate to get this to work, longs & shorts will never work in our office not enough hours on the short days + most times on the longs aswell.

I'm only a part timer, but from what I've observed RM are hell bent on doing away with overtime - using various tactics to faze it out - some fair, some not so fair. They are determined to "organize" both full timers, and part timers, in a way that covers ALL hours at NO additional cost to the company. They are upsetting a lot of Full Timers for a fact. I think maybe they want full timers to resign so the company can be run entirely by part timers. What a cowboy way to run a company!

.....we started our agreed longs and shorts this week based on a same start time every day of 05:45 for full timers instead of the previous 06:15. I haven't claimed extended delivery on a Monday or Tuesday for a few weeks but with the reduction in hours by half an hour on a Monday and a full hour on a Tuesday I suppose it was inevitable that I would and have clocked up 75 minutes so far. Our manager has said that the docket claims are up but may be balanced by the longer days (9 hours) on Thursday and Friday not requiring any.

Today was a reasonable workload for me but some walks had housing association mail outs for most if not all addresses, so with a high call rate it was hardly suited to a short day arrangement.

So. today I went in on time, had my full relief break, booked half an hour overtime and still finished half an hour before last weeks official time - can't complain.

The longer days and the Saturday arrangement (05:45 - 12:45 including half hour break which may be taken at the end for an earlier finish) have still to be evaluated but I suspect we will make more out of this than RM.

Just another example of tinkering when it's not broke - but it is nice to have an earlier start again with the prospect of summer afternoons off.

Thing is the hours will never work. When people start claiming on Tuesdays and Saturdays RM will trade off half an hour from Thursdays and Fridays again, which will then bump the overtime about elsewhere. The only benefit I have really gained the office from these changes is the chance of a slightly earlier finish due to the meal break being split up, and the earlier start.

However as we have now fulfilled any obligation from the agreement to bring in longs and shorts if they come back begging for more changes they can stick it.
