Protected allowances

Apart from having to sleep with the good lady again,I've never really worried about being kicked off of nights after nearly 20 years.I'm 54 years old and was led to believe that my night money will be paid until I'm 60 rather than just 3 years.

However I've been told that as part of some deal or other in the past this no longer applies.

Can some knowlegable person on here confirm this small detail that is going to cost me £12,000

as far as i am aware the maximum pay protection you can get is 3 years regardless of age?
The only difference is that if you are over 50 you will get the pay protection deferred until your last 3 years of service.

or something very similar

I'm not 100% but i'm sure i've seen something on here where because you are a certain age you get your allowances till you finish up the job.
But please dont quote me on that,but it does ring a bell.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

That has changed due to age discrimination laws i think?????

The maximum you can get IS 3 years
its just how it is paid i am unsure about

We lost our night duties through a revision 2 years ago and the guys on nights keep the allowance(£65) under pay protection for 3 years,the Mrs also lost her job(phg)and she to gets her allowance(£28)for 3 years.Not to sure if this would be the same with you or as you said would it be untill your 60?Will ask about.

As far as im aware if its a buisness driven change and your over 50 you are protected for 10 years.There is a sliding scale regarding pay protected allowences as im on it myself for three years, check way forward agreement im sure its in it.

Does that affect the early start allowance, is that only for 3 years or have we got grandfather rights with that.

We're supposed to have grandfather rights for the early start allowance but only while we remain in the same job (whatever that means).
