I am on one of these 6HR contracts that seem to be the norm nowadays.
In truth I work 40hrs+ every week with no pay for sickness (unless its a Saturday) and only 4.5 days off per year regardless of how much I work. I have seen my DOM who keeps on telling me (every two months) to come back and see him (in a few months).
Since it seems they have work for me, and they are using me, I do not know why my hours cannot be raised.
Anyway, should I refuse all overtime and work to rule to my contract and pray they are forced into putting my hours up on carry on with the status quo. I know this is a personal thing but is there any evidence this line of thinking works or will they just try their best to get rid of me and carry the con on with a new recruit.
Opinions are most welcome

All I can say is that's a scandal and shows exactly where DOM's intentions lie - lower wage bills equals more bonus for the DO managers.
If it was me I'd tell them straight you are working FT but not accruing statutory benifits (don't forget pension) and don't think that's right or proper. See what they say back to you. If you were FT anything over your duty hours would be OT whereas at the mo you'll need to do 10hours 'OT' before getting the OT rate.

Perhaps you could play them at their own game. When they expect you to come in and you have already done your 6 hours and you don't want to, explain that you don't want overtime on a particular day, and see where that takes you.

Maybe if the CWU would spend some money on a good legal team to look at this because I can't help but think that this is illegal (requiring permanent OT).
I'm going off now to look at employment law to see if I can see anything of use
