A question
Saturday is getting busier and busier, your overwelmed with packets. The office shuts at 13.30, the PO is shut at 12.30, your nowhere ner a PO on your round.Its 14.00 and you couldn't deliver all your packets. What do you do?
I was advised by folk to take them home and lock themin the shed, but can't take mail home, as monday morn IB will tap you on the shoulder, no can you offical leave on the doorstep or give to neighbough.
So what should we do with the packets.

Managers please come in and answer if you can

I'm experiencing the same problem. Lots of packets on a saturday, but I've been lucky so far that they've all fitted in the pink return bags you put in pillar boxes. Also as I don't work on Monday's the pouch box keys dont get returned to the DO til Tuesday because there's no collections after 12 on a Saturday. Hardly ideal is it?

Your told not to take home packages/letters but they shut the office down early on a Saturday. Welcome to Royal Mail awash with double standards and mixed messages! Would love an official answer as well.

Personally speaking I would refuse all SD's on a Saturday if there is a slightest chance the customer will not be in, and explain why! You might well a better response when your valid concerns are expressed. IE there is no way on gods earth you should take home a SD.

This has cropped up a lot on here lately.
'What about pouch boxes?' Is what i normally ask,so you guys haven't any of them you could use?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Nope, not on my round (just an insecure garage, but thats another story) - besides, who would get anally raped if the PB was tampered with and SD's were stolen overnight/weekend/next day?

get the line mananger to put it in writing instructing to to leave any packets in pouchboxes and get them to collect em monday morning as for specials if your not gonna make po the get the vans to take them out :arrrghhh

Most of the rounds in my offices has got no pouch boxes, they are just people porches, or bins or sheds, or shop floor. Its a case of they didn't think that one through now did they. My point is, if I can't get rid of them, then what? Van drivers won't take many more SD or parcels, your not allowed to leave them til monday so help

I was under the impression that Saturdays are NOT guaranteed for Specials. Tell your line manager that unless they arrange for a safe drop off point for your parcels and Specials you will not be able to take them. It's not that you will not, its that you cannot. Explain the situation about early closing.

If you are scaired (and many people are) of doing that to a Lino then see your Union Rep, I am sure he/she will come up with a plan.

Just had a look and Saturday Special Delivery is only enforced on the 9AM service, seems like our problems are solved. Technically you should not have a problem taking out regular SD until Monday anyway.

It's not due until Monday anyway guv...

gonna mention it at work time learning or the draw meeting tomorrow and see what the union rep says, hopefully it could be sorted out

People pay extra to have a Saturday guarantee on specials (not just 9am's). Look out for the little SG sticker on them, if there is one then they have to go on a Saturday.

If you have no way of returning mail to the DO on a Saturday, then it is the managers problem, as long as he is aware of it. If you don't want to approach him (or your union rep) with your worries, write a letter, explain your concerns and ask for an official explanation of the procedures you should follow if you have undelivered mail left after your delivery. Then slip it under his door or hand it to him. 2 things will have happened, 1 your will have notified him of your problem and 2 you will have asked for guidance, both in writing. Oh and ask for a written answer that way if he tells you to take it home, you can show IB you were following your managers instructions.

Guaranteed Saturday Specials cost extra and have a small yellow sticker with the letters SD on it.

Dont think the question was specifically about Specials? I always make sure I get them done first. But I think the problem of normal parcels after the office closes early on a Saturday is a widespread one and causing many people grave concerns. the offices should be open til at least 2pm imho.
