Regarding ILL health retirement

Post by Quarterpast8 »

I spoke to my boss the other week about being Ill health retired. I was told I would likely not get it as I don’t have a terminal illness and my condition which is mental and physical can be controlled by medication, I was also told that the process would be long.
I have instead been giving an option to take compensation, a lump sum to leave.
Has anyone been in this type of situation where they have been ill health retired or been giving compensation, and if so, how much was you offered.
I don’t pay into a pension, but I’ve been told that I would still be given a sum.
I feel like I have a case to go down the route of Ill health retirement as I come under the disability act, and they can’t meet my needs to carry out light duties.

TIA

Union rep won't go near ill health assessment due to they do not want to be seen as you was pushed towards it, this is probably why your manager is saying that too.

If your condition affects your ability to perform your duties, pop in a request for a OH assessment as you need to stress that your health conditions affect your ability to perform your job role safely.

it is hard to try and get ill health process as you'd need to be off sick continiously for around 10 to 12 months before either you put in a ill health process request in writing to your manager or HR systems picks up upon it thorugh long term sickness leave.

even then, if you get the opportunity to do IHR, its then proving medically that your health issues affects you fully on a daily basis at home along with how upon it would affect your ability to perform your duties for longer than 9 months AKA Foreseeable Future in RM's eyes.

i think your manager is trying to point you towards OH assessment.
it could work in your favour in the future for ill health.
