This should be fun go easy on him colleagues,some ones gotta do it at the end of the day and i would rather a person whos done the job then an outsider come in and start giving it large.Advice,never forget where you came from and dont be afraid to make your own decisions.Good luck.

Apply for full time reserve or do very very unpopular walk if you want to get more hours. You are still on trial. as everyone have to do 12 months.

TBH if you want to be a manager in reality then Royal Mail is not the place to be. I have been told on numerous occasions by most of our Lineos that RM doesn't allow them to manage, everything is dictated from on high and every rule must be followed and enforced rigidly. They openly, at least to me, believe they are more like supervisors than managers.

If you do want to get on in Royal Mail though get to know all the rules both RM and Union and make yourself indispensable. But don't expect to be popular as if you strike royal mail will note it and probably never select you, if you don't strike (if and when a strike is called) you will loose all the trust and friendship you will have built up.

Also TBH 6 months is not long enough to learn the job (I have been in 4 years and I still learn new things most weeks).

You could ask your DOM and see if you fit the profile to be an Apprentice.

my advice is to drink as much tea or coffee as you can. put on 3 stone .always blame someone else for your mistakes .call everybody mate then when they are out of sight give them a real slagging off .learn to lean on the drop bag fittings so they dont fall over. even though they have been there for forty odd years.
never touch any mail or push a york as that is left for lesser people to do, and the most important thing is never be seen in the office after 10.15 am or if there is a pub open within a 30 mile radius if you take all this good advice then my friend you will go far

First of all you have to get rid of any form of sense of humour,the love of having a chuckle, then you should have your brains and personality dragged from your A***,once this is compleated you should then learn to play the my mate game just so you get use to not being given a permenant job, your just there to be used abused and throw it away crew,you should also take on board how to learn to look like your listening to a pompose great t*t and look like your enlightened by his great mounds of knowledge,be submissive and to purr and like being a brown nose,then you should ask for shed loads of advice on how to beat postal staff with that big black stick whilst realising you have not a clue to what the correct route is or what rules or laws apply to any given breech of RM's rules,you should also take on board how to pick and choose which rules or laws that you are going to try and use for that day,once you have mastered all these then you'll fit in nicely.
