Packet volumes

We've been hammered at work the past couple of weeks with the amount of packets coming through, alot of them have been going out on docket in the afternoon as there is no way the drivers/posties can cope with the amount, is everyone having the same problem?
I've been keeping the 739's in Callers to get some idea of how many items we hand out weekly, including surchages/customs we have approx 2,000 people through the door each week to collect stuff

No, you are mistaken. Remember the volumes are falling. The only reason so many people have to come in and collect their packets is because they are too lazy to get out of bed early in the morning. The 4 drop bags of packets I had this morning including 14 Rec Del, and an extra 4 specials were figments of my imagination.

Seriously e-Bay is the saviour of RM at the moment, I don't see TNT and DHL racing to offer e-Bayers cheap postage options for their parcels. Best not tell RM though, they'll stick up the postage.

same in my do ,packet volumes have greatly increased since the advent of online buying,brougt 10 back today,line manager said nothing,just glared at me,i showed him my teeth,keep bringing them back,do not ring them,they never pick up the phone,all line managers and union reps have gone by 10.00,down the pub,up the high st or the betting shop,or shopping in a rm van :

Yes, there are more packets. And it feels like I'm collecting them all myself. Bags and bags of them, even from the small post offices. It's getting harder and harder to get back to the DO in time to get them all on the lorry.

If you are open 12 hours a day 6 days a week that is 1 person every 2 minutes, so what do you do the rest of the time?

At the moment, amongst other things, actually amongst many other things, I work on the drop bag fittings for packets and you are absolutely correct. We used to have 1 tipper, 3 sorters we now have mostly 1/2 tippers and 5 or more sorters and that goes from 5a.m. to 7.45/8/8.15 - I've still been at it at 10am but that is exceptional. In addition to the DBFs there are also large packet sorters, those numbers are variable. There is a lot of talk about walk sorting/sequencing and flat sorting but I haven't heard of a packet sorter yet.

I think you will find that that will happen in the next month or so.

And I hate to disagree but the reason many people are not having packets delivered is that we are getting out so LATE now and no-one is home.

Still sorting them at 0845 from 5 this morning BUT we was shorthanded again. There is a lot just lately apart from plants there is a lot of Amazon.

More packets to collect today than there were yesterday. More special delivery items too, unusual for a Friday! But perhaps if they get delivered tomorrow, people will be at home to receive them :-)
